It was opening day 2004, the sun was shining bright but, however,
the temperature was only in the upper forty’s and the car count was
down for the opener. The
racing was hot and the crowd was better then expected.
In
the super pro bracket quarterfinals action Rich Evans of Xenia, Ohio in
his newly painted 65 Mustang got a broke run when Jon Pickering of Troy,
Ohio did not make the call in his 70 Maverick. Steve Taylor of Dayton,
Ohio in his new dragster got the win over John King of Beavercreek, Ohio
in his 69 Corvette. Todd Cordell of Urbana, Ohio got the bye run in his
dragster. In the semi finals Steve Taylor got the bye run in to the
finals. Todd Cordell red lighted giving Rich Evans the right to meet
Steve in the final. In the final Steve Taylor cut a .506 to a .518 light
and ran a dead on 5.059 on a 5.05 at 133.17 to take the win. Rich ran a
6.656 at 100.88 on a 6.63 dial in.

Due
to the car count we ran bracket two and three as a combo bracket. In the
semi finals of the combo bracket Mike Hurless of Washington Court House,
Ohio in his 72 Nova had a .509 to a .524 starting line advantage and ran
a dead on 10.682 on a 10.68 at 120.03 to beat Todd Tooker of West
Carrollton, Ohio in his 67 Camaro who also ran dead on 10.253 on a 10.25
at 129.11. Doug Caplinger of Xenia, Ohio in his 79 Malibu won a double
breakout race over Doug Honsted of Dayton, Ohio in his 67 Nova. In the
final Mike had a .490 red light giving the win to Doug.

In pro Motorcycle quarterfinals Bob Nugent of Fairborn, Ohio beat
a red lighting Brian Poe of Cable, Ohio. Russell Stewart of Springfield,
Ohio beat a broke Perry Sowers of Springfield, Ohio. Tim Cooper of
Springfield, Ohio beat Jeff Nye of Kettering, Ohio. And Dave Beavers of
Urbana, Ohio beat Mike McGrath of Dayton, Ohio. In the semi finals Bob
won a double breakout race over Dave, and Tim broke out giving the win
to Russell. In the final Bob who at the opener last year was runner up
was looking to start the year off with a win. Well bob got his wish with
a .501 light and the win light with a 9.974 at 113.88 on a 9.94 dial in.
Russell ran a 9.193 at 136.39 on a 9.18 dial in.

In the junior dragster quarterfinals Michael Sturgill of
Beavercreek, Ohio beat Killian Fansler of Kettering, Ohio. Tyler Vance
of New Carlisle, Ohio beat Payton Filson of Fairborn, Ohio, and Justin
Whitt of Fairborn, Ohio got the bye run. In the semi finals Michael got
the bye run into the final. Justin got the win over Tyler to set up the
final. In the final Justin got the better light .535 to a .561 and the
win light with a 7.930 at 70.10 on a 7.90 dial in. Michael ran an 8.502
at 71.77 on an 8.44 dial in.
