Estes Claims Fourth Win at
Kil-Kare Speedway
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, Oh (8/13) - Friday
the 13th seemed to be an unlucky night for some of the competitors Friday
night in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Kil-Kare Speedway.
For late model drive
Gary Estes it was a good night for he and his Bond Machine sponsored
Pontiac. Darrell Norman and Jerry Stapleton brought the field to the green
in the feature with Norman taking the lead on the initial lap. The next time
around showed Jerry Stapleton and the Terry's Radiator Service Monte Carlo
in the lead. It appeared Stapleton was set to claim his fourth feature win
but instead it was Estes in victory lane for the fourth time.
In the early going Ford
driver Don Mahaffey shot his Taurus from fifth to second to challenge
Stapleton but a spin by Ron Simpson resulted in Mahaffey and Russ Bobb
looping their cars to avoid Simpson. Mahaffey and Bobb exited to the pits
with Bobb replacing a deflating tire and Mahaffey did not return.
Defending track champ
Sam Heckman brought his Monte Carlo up from seventh to second with Estes in
tow. Estes took over second and went after leader Stapleton who started to
drop off the pace with five laps to go. Estes made a move on the inside as
Stapleton slowed and dropped out. Mike Miller who is seeking his first track
title was second with Ken Kohl having his best late model finish as he
claimed third. Fourth went to Ricky Bates and fifth was Heckman.
The mini stock/sports
truck feature started out on a sweet note for Chuck Weaver who was after his
first win of the season but it turned ended on a sour note. Weaver charged
into the lead at the drop of the green and led with six time winner Gary
Eaton Jr. knocking on his rear bumper. Entering turn four for the
white flag he spun into the infield with Eaton and his Moore Trucking
sponsored Chevy S-10 claiming win number seven. Kenny Snyder was a close
second with Shawn Sparkman third, Shane Sparkman fourth, and Matt Potter
fifth.
Pure stock points leader
Tom Williams and Jamie Sites ran side by side at the start of the feature
with Williams and his Vogelsong Chiropractic Monte Carlo taking the front
spot. Heath White dropped Sites back to third with White moving within
striking distance of leader Williams. With five laps to go White put his
Houseman LTS Camaro into the lead to record his fifth win. Williams was
runner-up followed by Mike South Jr., Shawn Stansell, and Jeff Marsh.
The Tom Gill KOIL
Legends Cars held a regional $1,000 to win feature with the winner being
Bowling Green, KY driver Dillon Oliver. Mike Amell of Watertown, NY led the
first three laps, Bobby Sage the next lap, and from then on it was fifth
place starter Oliver in command to claim his second win of the year. Eighth
place starter Bryan Nuckles advanced to put the pressure on Oliver but
mechanical problems pitted him on lap fifteen. Danny Jackson ended up second
with Amell third followed by Terry Childers and Toby Alfrey. Amell and
Nuckles were heat winners.
Tim Haerr and his Pizza
& Company sponsored Beretta came out on top again in the compact
feature, claiming his sixth win. The win was not an easy one as Gary
Williams who has six wins was a very close second. Brett Boykin, Allen
Campbell, and Troy Patterson rounded out the top five.
In the ARCA Lincoln
Welders Truck Series 100 lap feature Bret Rowe of Barboursville, Virginia
was the winner in his Front Rowe Racing S-10 Chevy truck.
Coming up on Friday
night, August 20, will be the first ever visit of the USAC Ford Focus
Midgets along with the Late Models, Pure Stocks, E-Mods, Mini Stocks, and
Compacts with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
