Bobb Scores at Kil-Kare
Heckman Track Champ

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH (9/9) - Russ Bobb of Beavercreek behind the wheel of the Moore Trucking sponsored Monte Carlo made it two in a row NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series feature wins Friday night but it was New Carlisle's Sam Heckman claiming the points championship for the third straight year.
Bobb and Kelly Bratton who became the first female driver to start on the front row at Kil-Kare brought the field to the line only to see the cautions caution come out due to a mix-up on turn one that eliminated Kyle Kelch.
On the restart Bobb claimed the lead with fourth place starter Les Miller second and fifth place starter Bill Burba third. Bobb continued to lead but here came five time winner Tony Brunke chasing down Bobb. The surprise of the evening was Charlie Davis who was driving the former Ronnie Simpson who set fast time (14.236). He started nineth and moved up to wage a see saw battle with Brunke for second. Lap twenty five proved to be a disappointment for Davis as he spun on the backstretch, hitting the wall and out of competition and also Tony Brunke was eliminated with mechanical woes.
This put Heckman in second and that is where he finished behind winner Bobb. Les Miller had his best finish of the season as he was home third followed by Virgil Powell and Bill Burba.
The E-Mod feature had Kim Dill and Barret Tamasovich bring the field to the line with Dill putting her D'Burg Auto Body sponsored open-wheeler out front for the first five laps and then it Tamasocich the leader. All of a sudden as if out of nowhere seventh place starter Shawn Gray was in second. After a lap ten restart Gray put his Burco Trucking special around  Tamasovich for the lead and steadily built up a good lead over the field as he was on his way to his third feature win. A caution with five laps to go changed the picture as fast timer (13.917) Shawn Stroble who was battling Mike Carroll for second moved into second and as the laps wound down he put his Sherwin-Williams Paint sponsored car slong side of Gray coming for the checker to beat Gray across the line by a mere blink of the eye. Carroll was third with Tamasovich fourth and Dick Dunlevy Jr. was home fifth as he clinched the track points championship.
Gary Eaton Jr. barely made the last call for time trials in the Mini Stocks/Sports Trucks but it was worth it as he claimed fast time of 14.383.
It was Aron Harshbarger and John Morris leading the pack to the green in the feature with Morris showing as the leader for the first seven laps. Eaton started on the tail and by lap four was in second in his Vital Signs and Graphics Chevy S-10 truck. Harshbarger could hear him coming and lap eight showed Eaton as the leader as he went on to claim his fifth win of the year and also earned the title of track champion. Kenny Snyder wasn't far behind to claim second with previous weeks winner Eddie Flora third. Fourth was Shawn Sparkman and fifth was Shane Sparkman.
In the School Bus Figure-8 event Bill Southerland in the Carl's Body Shop/Wright Auto Exchange was the winner while Aaron Thompson in the Thompson Excavating bus claimed the Demolition Derby.
Other track champions for 2005 is Jamie Sites in the Pure Stocks and Donald Page in the Compacts.
As this concluded the 2005 season Kil-Kare management would like to thank all the fans, drivers, owners, mechanics, sponsors, and track employee's for their dedication and support throughout the year.
Drivers will be honored at an awards banquet with the date to be announced soon.
