Bobb and Davis First
Time Winners at Kil-Kare
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH. (9/2) -
Friday night's NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Late Model and
E-Mod features entertained the large crowd with what will go
into the record books as the most challenged events of the
season. It was side by side and wheel to wheel racing the
entire thirty laps features and when the checker was waved
it was new faces appearing in the winners circle.
Two veteran drivers,
Les Miller and Russ Bobb brought the Late Models to the
green flag with Bobb putting his Moore Trucking/Larry's Tree
Service sponsored machine out front with third place starter
Darrell Norman right behind with Miller in third place. Sam
Heckman moved around Miller on the outside to take third as
the drivers battled for position only to see the caution
lights come on and Miller sent to the tail for rough
driving.
Once back underway it
was green flag all the way with the first six cars running
as if under a blanket. Even though Bobb was able to show as
the leader on each lap Norman in his Wright Construction
machine was along side of him every lap. Right on their
bumpers were Tony Brunke, Ricky Bates and Bill Burba. It was
superb driving all the way to the checker with Bobb just
nosing out Norman for the win which was the first for the
former track champion. They were so close coming across the
line but thanks to transponders the finish showed Heckman
third, Brunke fourth, and Bates fifth.

The E-Mod feature was
almost a repeat of the Late Models. Greg Isaac and Charlie
Davis started in the front row with Davis quickly taking
command and Isaac riding in second. Dick Dunlevy Jr was next
but right behind him Terry Humphrey, Jason Mahaffey, Shawn
Stroble, and Shawn Gray were running under a blanket.
Stroble who started seventh was on the move as he got around
Dunlevy on lap fifteen to take second spot and on toward the
front he went in his Sherwin Williams Paint machine. Davis
held the front spot in his Muffler Brothers machine to claim
his first win of the year but Stroble was right there trying
to make a pass for the lead as they approached the checker.
While Stroble claimed second Isaac, Dunlevy, and Gray
rounded out the top five.

The Mini Stock/Sports
Trucks also produced a first time winner this season in that
Eddie Flora outclassed the field. John Morris enjoyed the
lead for two laps before Flora in his Key & Lock sponsored
Chevy S-10 took over and fronm then on it was the tail of
Flora's #45 the competition had to look at. Shawn Sparkman
held down second spot for thirteen laps but here came the
Mustang of track record holder Kenny Snyder to take second
from him. Snyder was reeeling in Flora when the checker
waved to claim runner-up money followed by Sparkman, Shane
Sparkman, and Matt Potter.

The Pure Stocks only
got one lap in before a mix-up occured on the fourth turn
that eliminated front row starter Shawn Stansell. Mike South
Jr. and his Turbo Blue Monte Carlo held the front spot all
the way to the checker for his second win of the season. It
was a tight train of cars behind the two front runners with
a little bumping as they fought to improve their positions.
When all was said and done Heath White claimed second, Tom
Williams third, Jamie Sites fourth, and Shane Williams
fifth.
Not to be outdone by
the other division winners, Dave Lecocq went into the
Compact winless but with nine top five finishes he finally
made it to victory circle. Even though he led from lap two
on, he had to worry about rapid moving Chip Haerr. Haerr,
with one win to his credit advanced from his nineth starting
slot and almost caught Lecocq to claim second with Donald
Page third, Matt Jackson fourth, and Randall Walton fifth.
It was a continuation
of first time winners in the Compact Powder Puff feature.
Jerry Kay McCubbin held off previous winner Donna Haerr for
her first ever win. Amber Isaacs was third, Marcie Haerr
fourth, and Angie Gilley fifth.
Though Friday night
was supposed to be the last event of the season, the season
has been extended on more week. This Friday night, September
9, will see a full program of School Bus Figure-8 and
Demolition Derby along with the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
Late Models, E-Mods, and Mini Stock/Sports Trucks. Spectator
gates will open at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
