XENIA – While the Kil-Kare Dragway ET Finals team was away at Indy, regular non-points bracket racing plus Quick 8’s kept Saturday busy at the Xenia strip.

Quick 8 door qualifying had 14 try for a place in eliminations, top speed for the class was Mike Rowe of Beaver with 162.39 mph.

In elimination round one, Rowe was knocked out of contention by Ed Beyer of Beavercreek. Jeff Armstrong of Cincinnati won his round against Howard Woods of Peebles and Jim Pauckner of Blanchester moved to round two over Boyd Beyer of New Carlisle. Mike Bloomfield of Hamilton picked up a win over Greg Burba of Beavercreek.

In round two, Pauckner picked up the win light over Armstrong and Bloomfield broke out sending on Beyer. In the final it was Beyer’s win, his second Quick 8 win in a row.

For Quick 8 open class, 17 competitors vied for the top eight spots. Best E.T. was Bart Morris of Manchester, Ky., best speed was Derek Orr of Loveland at 172.47 mph.

Round one eliminations had Orr pick up a double break out win over Phil Esz of Amelia; Matt Haywood of Beavercreek redlighted sending on Drew Smith of Fairfield. Tom Swigart of Xenia went to round two after winning his round against Bob Burris of West Carrollton. Morris redlighted sending David McCreedie of Trenton to round two.

In round two, Orr went to the final over Swigart and Smith picked up the round win over McCreedie. Smith picked up the final win and the prize money.  

In super pro, there were 105 cars staged up for round one. The quarterfinal rounds had Randy Cook of Wilmington pick up a double break out win over Allen Miller of Christiansburg; Daryl McConnahey of Springfield got a win after Terry Spurlock of Wilmington redlighted. Danny Kendall of Lima broke out giving Jim Perkins of New Carlisle the win and Bill Burlisle of Dayton got the bye run. In the semi final, Burlisle ran dead on his 5.95 dial in and caught a .50 light; Perkins ran 4.75 on a 4.74 for the win over Cook. In the final, Perkins went red handing the win to Burlisle.

 

In pro bracket quarterfinals, Rob Crider of Kettering won his round against Ken Litschgi of Cincinnati; Lyndon Cox of Kettering won his round against Bruce Asherntt, who caught a red light. Steve Collier of Xenia got the bye run.

In the semi final, Cox got bye run and was matched up against Collier for the final after Collier picked up the double break out win over Crider.

In the final, Cox went red handing the win to Collier.

In sportsman quarterfinals, there were 19 contenders ready for round one. In the quarters, Brian Collier of Xenia won his round against Valerie Sorrelle of Fairborn. J.D. Bowman of West Jefferson beat out Judy Partida of Beavercreek for a spot in the semis and Dave Freauf of Beavercreek got the bye run.

In the semis, Bowman went red securing Freauf in the final. Collier got a free ride to the final with the bye run. For the final round, Freauf got the win running a 13.52 on a 13.47 dial in.

The pro bike quarterfinals, Bob Nugent of Trotwood won his round after Allen Stamper of Springfield went red; Thad Neeld of St. Paris also caught a red light, sending on Perry Sowers of Springfield to the semis. Roger Wilhelm of Urbana picked up a round win over Doug Haolman of Springfield broke out. Danny Oiler Sr. of Springfield went to the next round after beating Brad Doyle of Dayton.

The semis had Nugent break out, putting Wilhelm in the final and Oiler got the better light over Sowers. Wilhelm picked up the final win, running 9.78 on a 9.77 dial in.

In high school, Kyle Brown of Jamestown was the only competitor that came out to run and in Junior Dragster, Justin Whitt of Fairborn ran dead on his 7.90 dial in for the win.
