XENIA – After suffering through two weeks of uncooperative weather, Kil-Kare Dragway’s anxious racers showed up in droves on Saturday, with a car count just shy of 300.

 

Bryan Fox of Springfield and Chance Russell of Dayton celebrated first time wins in pro and pro bike, respectively, and Ben Browder of Fairborn grabbed the day’s perfect .50 light and the win for junior dragster.

Super Pro quarterfinal action saw Mike Barrett of Beavercreek in his ‘92 Daytona take the win over Dick Valentine of Beavercreek in his ‘63 Corvette; Roger Taylor of Beavercreek beat out Jim Perkins of New Carlisle; Jason Ford of Kettering got to move on after Tim Thatcher of Xenia red lighted and Bob Burris of West Carrollton won his match up with Jeremy Kessler of Sabina.

In the semi final it was Burris’s win over Ford, Barrett’s over Taylor, setting the stage for the final. Ford ran his ’04 dragster dead on his 5.20 dial in, as Burris also nailed his down at 5.19 in his Olds. It was Burris with the better reaction time at .522 for the win.

The Pro quarter final saw Terry Davis of Milledgeville red light in his ’72 Nova, giving the win to Doug Lindsey of Washington Courthouse in his ’70 Nova; Doug Caplinger of Xenia in his ’72 Chevelle won over Mike Hurless of Washington Courthouse, who red lighted his ’72 Nova. Bryan Fox of Springfield in his ’04 Fox Dragster got the bye run.

In the semi final round Fox got the double break out win over Lindsey, with Caplinger picking up the bye run. It was Fox who picked up the win, his first, running a 10.198 on a 10.14 dial in; Caplinger dialed in at 11.63 running an 11.791.

The sportsman quarterfinal saw Nathan Baker of Xenia win in his ‘69 Mustang over Jason Shepherd of Riverside in his ’00 F150 truck; Mike McGriff of Oregonia in his ’91 Mustang broke out but won after Keith Roberts of Dayton in his ’02 Camaro caught a red light; Doug Caplinger of Xenia in his ’79 Malibu grabbed the double break out win over Walt Shade Jr., also of Xenia, in his ’73 Maverick.

In the semifinal, Baker picked up the win over Caplinger’s red light; McGriff got the bye run. It was Baker victorious in the final round, running 13.238 on his 13.16 dial in, reaction of .553. McGriff hit a 13.082 on his 13.05 dial in.

Pro bike quarterfinals had Dave Beavers of Urbana ran dead on moving up over Burt Exman of Englewood; Dean Weaks of Fairborn won over Mike McGrath of Dayton; Nathan Thatcher of Dayton picked up a win over Scott Shepperd of Tipp City and Chance Russell of Dayton picked up the bye run.

In the semi final, Beavers red lighted on his ’90 Kawasaki giving the win to Russell on his ’81 Suzuki; Weaks moved on to the final aboard his ’77 Suzuki over Thatcher on his ’76 Kawasaki.

Russell picked up his first win running dead on his dial in of 9.53, Weaks ran an 11.441 on his dial in of 11.41.

In High School Mikey Collier of Dayton got the double break out win over Andi Terrell of New Carlisle.

For the Junior Dragsters, it was an exciting day for Ben Browder of Fairborn. Not only did Browder win the Top Tree Award nailing a perfect .500 light in the quarter final, he went on to win for the day as well.

In the semi final it was Brian Cripps of Miamisburg running dead on over Payton Filson of Fairborn, who broke out. Browder’s semi final pitted him against Chris Nuss of North Hampton, Nuss running an 8.701 on his 8.65 dial in.

In the final Cripps broke out, Browder ran a 9.105 on his 9.07 dial in setting him up for the win.
