XENIA – The Jeg’s Super Quick series joined regular bracket racing at Kil-Kare Dragway on Saturday amid scorching temperatures. The Jeg’s quarter finals put Dean Stevens of South Bloomington against Craig Sullivan of Avon, Ind. Sullivan redlighted sending on Stevens. Also catching a red light was Marla Hunter of Pendleton, Ind., which moved Lester Adkins of Corydon, Ky. To the semis. Dave Purk of Piqua won against Thomas Smith of Ft. Wayne, Ind. and Ed Beyer of Beavercreek broke out in his run against Brian Napier of Marysville. In the semi final, Stevens ran dead on his 4.62 dial in, good enough for the win over Adkins. Napier broke out in his run, but went to the final after Purk redlighted. The final round Napier repeated his break out; Stevens ran a 4.61 on his 4.64 dial in at a speed of 151.46mph.
In super pro quarter finals, Rusty Burlile of Huber Heights got the won over Danny Kendall of Lima, who broke out. James Emrick of Tipp City ran a 6.60 on a 6.59 dial in to beat Mike Ford; Jason Ford of Kettering picked up a win over Luke Williams of Dayton and Mike Brown of Fairborn got the bye run. In the semi final, Burlile won with a 6.25 on a 6.23 dial in. Emrick ran dead on his 6.59 dial in but came up short in the reaction. Ford moved on to the final after Brown broke out. In the final, Ford picked up the win running a 5.15 on his 5.14 dial in. Burlile also ran close to his dial in, however those thousandths of a second counted against him.
In pro quarter finals, Bill Livesay of Fairborn picked up a win over Gwayne Honeycutt of Urbana; Donnie Manning of West Carrollton moved to the semis over Jason Hays of Riverside. Jay Ward of Lebanon won his round against Randy Smith of Washington Courthouse and Mike Hurless, also of Washington Courthouse got the win after Carl Tyree of Springfield broke out. In the semi final, Livesay ran dead on his dial in with a .507 light for the win over Hurless; Ward broke out sending Manning to the final. The final round winner was Livesay, who ran a 10.69 on his 10.68 dial in. Manning redlighted.
In the sportsman quarterfinals, Richard Hammond of West Milton picked up a win over Rob Stacy of New Carlisle. Brian Collier of Xenia redlighted, handing the win over to Joe Cloran Jr. of Fairborn and Walt Shade Jr. of Xenia ran a 13.03 on his 13.02 dial in for the win over Mark Moore of Xenia. Andrew Smyly of Riverside got the bye run. In the semi final, Smyly broke out sending Hammond to the final and Shades 13.04 beat Cloran’s 14.78 on his 14.72 dial in. Shade was victorious in the final round as Hammond grabbed himself a red light.
Pro motorcycle quarters, two out of three runs saw red lights. Burt Exman of Englewood was one of those redlights, putting Dean Weaks of Fairborn in the semis; Chance Russell of Dayton redlighted his run against Jody Wogoman of Xenia. Russell Stewart of North Hampton won his round against Mike McGrath of Dayton. The semi final was decided by a bye run, which went to Weaks and a redlight by Stewart, that moved Wogoman to the final. The final round brought Weaks to the winner’s circle with a run of 11.34 on his 11.32 dial in, Wogoman broke out.
High school semi finals included Nick Barrett of Beavercreek moving to the final after Ryan Burba, also of Beavercreek, broke out of his run. Mikey Collier of Dayton won his round against Aaron Sprauer of Kettering. In the final Collier redlighted; Napier ran dead on his 13.92 dial in for the win.
