XENIA, Ohio – The Fourth of July weekend was a busy one at Kil-Kare Dragway, with rains taking a break on Thursday just long enough for Night of Fire to light up the sky and a full day of bracket racing on Saturday. Super Pro saw 118 cars stage up to get the day started, picking it up at the quarter final round with Jeff Hazelbaker of Greenfield and Bill Burlie of Dayton. Both men ran dead on their dial ins with near perfect lights, Hazelbaker’s was better by a fraction for the win with a .506; Burlie ran at .503. Doug Miller of Huber Heights and Lance Anthony of St. Paris also ran a close a round, with this one going to Anthony. Miller ran a 5.98 on his 5.99 dial in; Anthony 4.96 on his 4.97. Jim Perkins of New Carlisle won his round against Mike Barrett of Beavercreek; Brent Angles of Hillsboro hit a .507 reaction but broke out giving the win to Rusty Burlile of Huber Heights. In the semi final, Hazelbaker redlighted sending Perkins on to the final; Anthony’s .521 reaction beat Burlile’s .535. In the final, Anthony nailed his 4.96 dial in; Perkins broke out making Anthony the first repeat super pro winner this season. In pro bracket quarterfinals, Phil Bagnard of Englewood moved on to the next round with his ’55 Chevy knocking out Mark Stroble of Springfield; Doug Caplinger of Xenia got the win over James Sanders of Riverside. Jason Wheatcraft of Jamestown ran dead on his 11.26 dial in, beating Kenny Rogers of Xenia. Johnny Vanover of Xenia redlighted his round against Dave Cox of Washington Courthouse. In the semi final, it was Caplinger’s win after Bagnard broke out, Cox got the double break out win over Wheatcraft. In the final, it was Caplinger who broke out and Cox the bracket winner, he ran a 10.05 on his 10.08 dial in. In sportsman quarterfinals, Wayne Richardson of Xenia won his round against Nathan Baker, also of Xenia. Doug Caplinger of Xenia redlighted sending Ken Forsythe of Fairborn to the semi final; Rob Stacy of New Carlisle got the bye run. Forsythe got the semi final bye run and a spot in the final; Richardson won his round against Stacy. In the final it was Richardson who got the double break out win and the first win of the season for the 46-year veteran of the sport. There were 27 pro motorcycles staged for competition, quarterfinal results had Sam Cotterman of Tremont City picking up a win over Doug Haulman of Springfield. Cotterman ran a 13.67 on a 13.71 dial in, Haulman broke out. Dean Weaks of Fairborn ran dead on his 11.26 dial in, knocking out Burt Exman of Englewood, who ran 8.60 on his 8.55 dial in. Danny Oiler Sr. of Springfield got the win over Dave Beavers of Urbana, Nathan Thatcher of Dayton got the bye run. In the semi final, Weaks caught a red light sending Cotterman to the final. Oiler went to final after beating Thatcher, who ran a 9.84 on his 9.80 dial in; Oiler ran 8.73 on his 8.70. For the final, Cotterman broke out sending Oiler Sr. to the winner’s circle. High school quarter finals saw Michael Sturgill of Beavercreek in his Berretta move to the semis over Jason Parriman of Dayton. Mikey Collier of Dayton broke out in his round, however Zach VanOss of Beavercreek redlighted sending Collier on to the next round. Joe Hoskins of Fairborn got the bye run. In the semi final, Hoskins got the bye run and Sturgill got the double break out win over Hoskins setting the stage for the final. Double break out was the theme again in the final, but this one was Collier’s win. Collier and Sturgill are tied for the lead in points with 22 each. Junior dragster quarter finals saw Jake Browder of Fairborn win his round over Brian Cripps of Miamisburg. Ryan Jenks of Jamestown won over Brittany Adams of Beavercreek; Jake Riley of Carlisle won over Julie Duty of Vandalia. Even though Ben Browder of Fairborn lost his round to Justin Whitt, also of Fairborn, Browder still managed Top Tree awards for his .5011 light in round one then his .5078 in the quarterfinal. In the semi final, Whitt broke out but Jake Browder redlighted sending Whitt to the final. Jenks went to the final after wining his round against Riley. In that final, Whitt ran dead on his 7.92 dial in leaving Jenks in the runner up position. Jenks still sits in the points lead.
