The super pro final from Aug. 13 that paired up Lance Anthony of St. Paris and Jay Fedkow of Xenia was won by Anthony.
This week’s curfew plagued bracket quarter final results included a win for Matt Phillips of Centerville after Nathan Baker of Xenia redlighted; Greg Kain of Kettering picked up a win over Leon Bryan of Jamestown in his ’65 Corvette and Rusty Burlisle of Huber Heights got a .50 light and the win over Mike Barrett of Beavercreek. The semi final saw Burlisle pick up a spot in the final after running a 6.27 on a 6.25 dial in against Kain, who ran 4.97 on a 4.95. Phillips got the bye run. Burlisle and Phillips were Co-Winners in this weeks final!
The pro bracket quarterfinals Bob Templin of Greenfield picked up a win over Kenny Rogers of Xenia and Dave Cox of Washington Courthouse won his round against Leonard Wheatcraft of Jamestown. Steve Collier of Xenia ran a 10.16 on a 10.15 dial in for the win over Shawn Stacy of Beavercreek. Gwayne Honeycutt of Urbana got the bye run. In the semi final, it was Honeycutt’s win over Cox and Collier won his round against Templin setting up the final. The final run was of the double break variety, which sent Collier and his dragster to the winner’s circle.
The bracket III sportsman quarterfinals ran Mike Walter of Trotwood against Mike McGriff of Oregonia; McGriff redlighted and Walter got the win. Phil Borton of Urbana won his round against Gary Knight of Dayton and Doug Caplinger of Xenia moved on to the semis after beating Ricky Shepherd of Dayton. Nathan Baker of Xenia got the bye run. In the semis, Borton ran dead on his 13.72 dial in for a spot in the final as opponent Walter broke out; the double break out run of Baker and Caplinger was won by Baker. In the final, Borton broke out of his 13.73 dial in to hand the win to Baker, who got it running a 13.26 on a 13.23 dial in.
There were 24 pro motorcycles staged up for round one, with the quarterfinal rounds dealing a win to Burt “Wally” Exman of Englewood running dead on his 8.65 dial in to knock out Sam Cotterman of Tremont City. Scott Sheppeard of Tipp City won his round against Brad Shellhaas of Springfield and Shannon Milnickel of West Milton redlighted sending Dave Beavers of Urbana to the semis. In the semis, Beavers broke out and Exman’s spot in the final was secure with his 8.66 run; Sheppeard got the bye run. In the final, it was Sheppeard who picked up the double break out win.
The Quick 8 door category competition had 15 cars stage up for a shot at eliminations. The quickest eight were Mike Rowe of Beaver, Ed Beyer of Beavercreek, Jackie Sloan of Adrian, Greg Burba of Beavercreek, Steve Brinegar of Germantown, Jarod Wenrick of Tipp City, Jim Pauckner of Blanchester and Badeye Brinegar of Middletown. In the first round Rowe picked up the double break out win over Steve Brinegar and Beyer moved to the next round over Wenrick. Badeye Brinegar picked up the win after Burba broke out and Slone redlighted sending Pauckner to the next round. next round, Beyer grabbed his spot in the final after Brinegar broke out and Pauckner won his round against Rowe. In the final, Pauckner broke out and Beyer went to the winner’s circle for the class. Best E.T. and mph for the door class went to Rowe, whose qualifying speed was 158.48 mph.
In the open class, the top eight competitors were Dean Karns Jr. of Fairborn, Dereck Orr of Loveland, Randy Helton of Carlisle, David McCreedie of Trenton, Larry Dripps of Stuart, Fla., Matt Haywood of Beavercreek, Tom Swigert of Xenia and Drew Smith of Fairfield. First round eliminations moved Smith to the semis after McCreedie broke out and Helton went to the next round as Swigart broke out of his round. Continuing the theme, Haywood broke out sending Orr on the next round and Dripps picked up the win over Karns. In the second round, Orr moved to the final over Smith and Dripps knocked out Helton setting up the final. In that final round, Orr caught a redlight and Dripps picked up the win. Interestingly enough, Dripps was passing through Ohio on his way to another race when he heard about the Quick 8.
In high school quarters, Andi Terrell of New Carlisle broke out sending on Joe Hoskins of Fairborn; Jason Parriman redlighted giving the win to Mikey Collier of Dayton and Michael Sturgill of Beavercreek got the bye run. The semis had Sturgill grab a win over Collier and Hoskins scored the bye run. Sturgill was victorious once again after Hoskins gave it away with a redlight.
Junior dragster quarters had Ben Browder of Fairborn move to the semis over Brittany Adams of Beavercreek; Emily Kathe of Xenia won over Justin Whitt of Fairborn and Dylan Bair of Urbana grabbed a win over Megan Hughes of Jamestown. Brian Cripps of Miamisburg got the bye run. In the semi final Browder lost his round to Kathe and Bair moved to the final after winning his round against Cripps. Kathe broke out in the final and Bair went to the winner’s circle.
