Xenia, OH (5/19 - It was a tough night of
racing Friday night at Kil-Kare Speedway as numerous crashes put
many competitors out of competition but when it all settled down in
the late Model feature New Carlisle's Dick Dunlevy Jr. ended up the
winner of the 30 lap feature.
Virgil Powell and Charlie Davis brought
the field to the green flag for the Langs Chevrolet/Mazda sponsored
feature with Powell taking command until the yellow followed by a
red flag halted action on lap thirteen. A multi-car pile-up happened
on turn one that eliminated the cars of Charlie Davis and Russ Bobb
with Dunlevy receiving damage to the passenger side of his Turbo
Blue sponsored machine.
Powell continued to lead on the restart
but again action was halted three laps later that saw damage to
Jamie Sites car and Powell's machine failed to fire-up for the
restart.
By the time the checker waved it was
Dunlevy claiming his second win of the young season. John Vallo,
winner of the opening nights feature tried to catch Dunlevy but had
to settle for second. Fast timer Tony Brunke tried his famous
outside groove pass to get around Vallo but could not garner up
enough horsepower to do so as he claimed third. Points leader Ricky
Bates was fourth with Sam Heckman fifth.
Bill Burba claimed the fast car dash.

The Muffler Brothers of Xenia sponsored
E-Mod feature started with Mike Broaddus and Charlie Davis in the
front row but when the green dropped it was Broaddus taking the lead
but it wasn't long before the ole veteran, Terry Humphrey was out
front. They ran twenty fierce laps with fast timer Shawn Gray
closing in on Humphrey from his seventh place starting berth when
the action was halted. Shawn Stroble and Davis were sidelined when
Stroble slid sideways and Davis, with no where to go hit the Stroble
machine.
Humphrey continued to lead the rest of
the way but Gray gave him so serious challenges in hopes of earning
his third straight win ole Hump was able to hold him off. With Gray
second, Jason Mahaffey ran right with the leaders to claim third and
fourth went to rookie E-Mod driver Shawn Stansell who
had posted second fast time. Broaddus ended up fifth.
Jeff Marsh jumped out front at the start
of the Sport Stock feature with rookie and one time feature winner
Jason "Jug Head" Evans trailing. Evans made a turn four pass on
Marsh to take the lead and looked like he was well on his was to win
number two but mechanical problems sidelined him on lap fourteen.
Shane Williams took over the lead and
was on his way to his first win of the year but a hard charging Tom
Williams was coming on strong to challenge Shane. It appeared Shane
had it won but at the finish line it was Tom by a whisker, in fact
.006 seconds over Shane to take the win. Marsh was third followed by
Mel McMullen and Bret Clark.
The Australian pursuit went to Jeff
Marsh over Mike South Jr, Dan Suffron, Bret Clark, and Dave Lecocq
Action was hot and heavy in the Compact
feature with numerous spins and off track ventures by some of the
drivers but when the checker waved it none other than Randy Walton
in the Affordable Auto Parts sponsored machine taking the win just
barely over time Haerr in the Mahaffey Auto Parts sponsored car. For
Walton it was his second win of the season. Gary Williams came from
back in the pack to claim third with Ron Sagers fourth and Chip
Haerr fifth.
Kil-Kare will have the big School Bus
Figure-8 and Demolition Derby Friday night, May 26, along with the

Hardcore Stunt Show will be there with a huge fireworks display to
follow.
