Evans and Lachman Claim Kin-Kare Wins

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH (6/9) - Friday night's racing action at Kil-Kare Speedway Friday night saw Jason Evans of Harveysburg and Jerry Lachman of Dayton claim feature wins in the Sport Stock and Compact features.

Evans, a rookie in the Sport Stocks has shown he is a driver driven with determination as he won his second feature of the year. It certainly was not an easy win by any means as he almost was beaten at the finish line.

Evans jumped into the lead at the start but the so called star of the event had to be former track champ Tom Williams. Twice Williams recovered from spins to come back toward the front to challenge Evans and challenge he did. As they approached starter Mike Stapleton's checker flag Williams made an outside bid for the lead but Evans drifted just a little high, almost forcing Williams into the frontstretch wall. Williams did not let off the throttle in his bid for the win which saw him sail down the pit exit ramp at almost full throttle coming to rest against a concrete barrier.

For Evans it was his second win of the season with Williams credited with second place with third going to Shane Williams. Rounding out the top five was one time feature winner Rusty Clark and fifth was Regina Adams in her Kil-Kare debut.

Tom Williams had fast time while the heat wins went to Evans and Bret Clark who was forced out of the feature with a flat tire.

The Compact feature was equally exciting. Bo Hoelscher took the early lead with Jerry Lachman in hot pursuit. At the halfway point Lachman made his pass good and Hoelscher faded. Seventh place starter Gary Williams was coming on like gangbuster as was the Haerr brother, Chip and Tim.

Lachamn took the win with Williams within striking distance to claim runner-up. Tim Haerr was third with Chip fourth and Hoelscher limped home fifth.

Tim Haerr had fast time with the heat wins picked up by Hoelscher and Williams.

Coming up Friday, June 16, will be sport stock super Friday with a full program of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series late models, modifieds, sport stocks, compacts, powder puffs, and IKO Mini Cups. Gates open at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
