It's The Three Shawn's Show at Kil-Kare
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH (7/14)- The Muffler
Brothers of Xenia sponsored modified division at Kil-Kare Speedway
seems to have an abundance of drivers named Shawn. There is Shawn
Stansell of Kettering, Shawn Gray of Columbus, and Shawn Stroble of
Urbana and all are giving the other competitors a run for their
money.

First Shawn Stroble was the
fast timer of the nineteen modifieds on hand with a time of 14.097 and
then Shawn Stansell, a rookie in the division having moved up from the
pure stocks claimed his heat win.
The feature turned out to
be a hum-dinger that required two restarts just to get the 30 lap
event underway. Kim Dill and one time feature winner Jason Mahaffey
brought the field to the line with the daring Kim Dill taking the lead
with Terry Humphrey, Stroble, and Mahaffey in tow and tow it was as
they hounded her for the lead.
Stroble finally shook
Humphrey loose and then set sail for Dill who did a splendid job of
holding off Stroble's challenges until the halfway mark and then her
hopes of a win was tossed to the win when she spun on turn four which
sent her to the tail.
With Stroble in the lead on
the restart the stage was set as five time winner Shawn Gray was now
dogging Stroble just like the previous week when Stroble spun while
leading only this time. Stroble kept it under control to collect his
first win of the season in his Sutphen Towers sponsored machine.
Following second place finisher Gray was a young rookie driver who is
showing a lot of potential and that is Derek Weatherhead. Fourth was
Humphrey and fifth was Mahaffey while the third Shawn, Stansell placed
sixth.
Heat wins went to Charlie
Davis of Xenia and Stansell.

In the Langs
Chevrolet/Mazda NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series late model feature it
equally exciting and very competitive just like the modifieds.
Eighteen cars lined up for
the thirty lap event with Tony Brunke and Bill Burba on the front row
but it was one time feature winner Brunke of Casstown only to see the
caution light come on which involved Brunke and others including Sam
Heckman who was pitted with a flat tire.
As not a lap had been
scored it was a complete restart and again Brunke surged ahead with
Burba, John Vallo, Dave Brandenburg, Dick Dunlevy, and Gary Estes in
hot pursuit of the leader. Burba slipped a little on lap eight and
dropped out four laps later. Vallo then took over second and tried to
pass Brunke but couldn't pull it off. Two time winner Estes decided it
was time to make a move and onward toward the front he went. By lap
nineteen he was third, two laps later he passed Vallo for second and
from that point on it was look out Brunke the Green Hornet of Estes is
coming after you.
As the five laps to go
signal came out Miamisburg native Estes made his outside pass good as
he claimed his third win of the year in his Weiler Welding/Bond
Machine sponsored car. Brunke was second followed by Vallo,
Brandenburg, and Dunlevy.
Dunlevy had fast time of
14.129 with heat wins going to Estes and Tim Allensworth.

Xenia's Tom Williams seems
to be the dominating driver in the sport stocks as he was the top
qualifier at 15.346 and then captured the twenty lap feature.
Two members of the
Harveysburg Posse, Bret Clark and Rusty Clark led the field to the
starting line with Rusty taking the lead with Bret second and Tom
Williams third as a five car battle developed which also included Mike
South Jr., and Derek Louderbach. For awhile it seemed as if Rusty just
might pick up his second win but Williams had a plan and that was to
win. Lap eleven showed the Vogelsong Chiropractic sponsored machine of
Williams out front and that is just where he stayed to rack up his
fourth win. Rusty was second trailed by Shane Williams, Louderbach,
and South Jr.

When they turn the Oakley
Blacktop sponsored compacts loose keep your eye on the blue #5 Toyota
of Dayton's Randy Walton because you will probably see him charging
toward the front and he usually succeeds. Well that was the case again
Friday night as by lap six he had moved from ninth to take the lead
and his fourth win of the season in his Affordable Auto Parts
sponsored machine. Two time feature winner Jerry Lachman claimed
runner-up honors in his Complete Concrete sponsored car.

mayhem sponsored by Key Chrysler Dodge had thirteen entrants and when
the action ended it was Curtis Dull taking the win with Robert
Bronson, Butch Russell, and Nathan Greer rounding out the top four.
