Vallo and Stroble Claim Kil-Kare Wins

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH (8/25) - Veteran drive John Vallo of Fairborn could not have picked a better night  to capture his 292nd career feature win Friday night at Kil-Kare Speedway as the nights activity was being taped for showing later this year by ESPN.
The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series late model feature sponsored by Langs Chevrolet/Mazda was a crowd pleaser for the capacity crowd as four drivers jockeyed throughout the entire thirty laps for the front positions.
Former feature winners Tony Brunke and Russ Bobb brought the field to the line for the start of the event  with the two challenging each other side by side with Brunke putting his D'Burg Auto Body sponsored car out front with Bobb right behind. Fourth place starter Vallo in his Vallo Racing entry then moved alongside Bobb as they fought each other for second. Vallo secured second as sixth place starter  and fast timer Tim Allensworth then moved alongside Bobb as he put his machine in third spot by lap twelve.
Bobb was moved back further as Bill Burba and Dave Brandenburg moved into fourth and fifth with Bobb now back in sixth place. By lap twenty it was a four way battle for the lead with Brunke still in front but Vallo was challenging on the outside and Allensworth and Burba was on their rear bumpers.
With Brunke holding a slight lead over Vallo who was running right beside him a car about to be lapped on lap twenty three forced Brunke to back off the gas just enough to allow Vallo to take advantage of Brunke's misfortune as Vallo put his "Black Widow" #21 in front to claim the win with Brunke second, Burba third, Allensworth fourth, and Brandenburg fifth.
Heat wins went to Gary Estes and Brunke with Allensworth tops in time trials with a time of 14.081
The Muffler Brothers of Xenia modified feature got off to a rough start as the cars of Kim Dill, Mike Stradling  and Charlie Davis were eliminated in a turn four crash on the first lap.
Five time feature winner Shawn Gray and Tim Allensworth who was making his Kil-Kare modified debut started on the front row of the thirty lap feature. Gray took the lead as third place starter Terry Humphrey pulled alongside Allensworth  as the two swapped second the next two laps. Allensworth then passed Gray for the lead to put his Dallas Smith Trucking open-wheeler out front and built up a small lead. Meanwhile Shawn Stroble challenged engine builder Humphrey, taking second on lap seventeen and then lap after lap closed the gap on leader Allensworth to take the lead.
Stroble, of Urbana maintained the lead in his Sutphen Towers/Rich's Tri-County Auto Sales sponsored machine to claim his fifth feature win of the season in regular Friday night activity. Allensworth was second with Humphrey third, Chad Pendleton in Stroble's back-up car fourth, and fifth was Gray.
Stroble was also fast qualifier at 13.968 while heat wins went to Jason Mahaffey and Neil McClelland.
The school bus figure-8 was captured by Bill Sutherland and the demolition derby by Matt Johnson.
Next Friday night, Sept. 1, it will be race car rides for the kids along with all regular four divisions in action with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
