Vallo In Winning Form at Kil-Kare
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH. (4/28) - After three
straight weeks of rain-outs, Kil-Kare Speedway finally got the
season underway Friday night and it was none other than seasoned
driver John Vallo of Fairborn taking the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
Late Model feature sponsored by Langs Chevrolet/Mazda of
Beavercreek.
With a four position inversion
for the 30 lap feature fourth fast qualifier Vallo would have
started on the inside of the second row however polesetter Tim
Allensworth failed to make the call for the feature thus this put
Vallo in the number one starting slot third fast timer Ricky Bates
alongside. When starter Mike Stapleton dropped the green flag Vallo
took command and never looked back as he held the front spot to
claim his two hundred and ninety one career win.
Bates wasn't far behind Vallo
all the way as he claimed runner-up honors while fast timer Tony
Brunke was third with Bill Burba fourth and Ryan Dunlevy, making his
late model debut was fifth.
The Muffler Brothers of Xenia
E-Mods had veteran driver Terry Humphrey and young Shawn Stansell
bringing the field to the green for their 30 lap feature. Humphrey,
the veteran engine builder took the lead with Stansell right behind
but the car to watch was the yellow machine of Shawn Gray. Gray, of
Columbus moved around Stansell and reeled in Humphrey with the two
running lap after lap side by side before Gray was able to pull
ahead. Humphrey held on for second but fast timer Derek Barnette was
knocking on his rear bumper to claim third with Shawn Stroble coming
in fourth and Mike Broaddus fifth.
It may have been the first
event Harveysburg's Jason "Jug Head" Evans competed in but one would
never had known it as he posted third quick time which put him on
the outside front row for the twenty lap feature. Veteran Jeff Marsh
started alongside but it was the red #27 of Evans jumping out front
to lead all the way to record his first ever win. Marsh ran second
for many laps but sixth place starter Heath White was moving up,
overtaking Marsh for second place money with Marsh third. Dan
Suffron had fast time but elected to start on the tail-end but just
to show his fast time was not a fluke he powered his way up to claim
fourth with Shane Williams home fifth.
Dayton's Randall Walton
started the Oakley Blacktop sponsored Compacts season in winning
form as he stayed in front all fifteen laps of the feature but it
wasn't an easy win as Chip Haerr kept within striking distance to
claim second spot. Newcomer Jerry Lachman was third with former
track champ Tim Haerr fourth and Bo Hoelscher fifth.
The Powder Puff gals will be
an added class this season and it was Vandalia's Amber Isaacs
capturing the first event.
Kil-Kare will be back in
action Friday with E-Mod Super Friday along with all the NASCAR
Dodge Weekly Series events with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and
racing at 8 p.m.
