Saturday’s drag racing action heated up with 258 cars starting round one, with 73 opting for the buy backs after first round eliminations. Many outside racers visited the Xenia facility due to other area tracks running special events. In Super Pro 96 cars staged for first round. In the quarter finals, N392, and Josh Johnson paired up for the first run. 6.13 dial for the left lane and Johnson would dial a 6.80. Starting line advantage was not much, but belonged to N392, with a .547 reaction. Eighth mile finish line saw win light for N392, after a 6.141 run on a 6.13 dial. Dean Karns Jr. faced Derek Mallow for the next pair. Karns would dial in a 4.91, and Mallow a 6.56. Off the tree the advantage went to Karns with a .527. At the big end the win light went to Karns with a 4.950 run, on a 4.91 dial. Mark Adkins faced 337A for the next run. Adkins dialing a 6.18 when 337A was unable to make it to the starting line which gave the Adkins the advance to the next round. N392 had the Bye run in the semi finals. Up to the line next were Dean Karns Jr. and Mark Adkins. Karns dialed a 4.94 and Adkins a 6.19. Off the starting line we saw the advantage go to Karns with a .504 light, Adkins ran a red light, which moved Karns into the finals! The final round of Super Pro went down the track just before midnight, it was a long day for Dean Karns, as he started his day in Columbus in Super Comp, was beat first round, then packed it up and started for Xenia. Crewman and co Driver Michael Weaks stated that once the decision was made to travel to Kil-Kare it took only 20 minutes to pack the trailer for the trip. In the final round, Karns faced N392 for the Final Round. As the pair staged up N392 dialed a 6.13 and Karns a 4.94. As the tree dropped reaction time advantage was for Karns with a .525 reaction. The starting line lead would translate into a win light after a 4.970 run on a 4.94 dial.
In Pro Class 72 cars staged for round one, and 18 of the first round losers bought back In the Quarter Finals Brian McLaughlin stages next to Rick Parsons for the first pairing. A red light for Parsons would push McLaughlin in to the next round. Up next was Shawn Stacy and Michael Roberts, Stacy dialed a 10.94 and Roberts a 10.21. At the tree the advantage was to Roberts with a .550 at the quarter mile finish line, Shawn Stacy was named the winner with a 10.942 run on a 10.94 dial. Bill Livesay would be the next to pull in against K360. Livesay would dial a 10.58 and K360 would dial a 10.33. Livesay ran red at the tree moving K360 into the next round. Buy Back runner Rob Matthews would receive the Bye run into the next round. In the Semi Finals Brian McLaughlin faced Rob Matthews for the first run. McLaughlin would dial a 10.89 to Matthews’ 9.91. At the tree McLaughlin was away better with a .563 reaction time, but Matthews went just ran him hard, getting the Breakout win with a 9.979 run on the 9.91 dial. Shawn Stacy faced off with Mike Hurless to finish up the Semi final runs. Stacy dialed a 10.94, and Hurless a 10.30. At the starting line the advantage went top Stacy with a .556 reaction time. Quarter mile win light went on for Shawn Stacy running an 11.016 on a 10.94 dial. In the finals, Shawn Stacy would face the driver that he put out in the first round. Rob Matthews bought back and made it to the finals thanks to sponsor help at the very last minute. Matthews had said earlier in the day, “ I had packed it all up except for the car when my sponsor came in and bought me back into the race!” At the line Stacy would dial a 10.97 to Matthews 9.92, off the line the advantage would go to Stacy with a .538 light. When the pair made their way to the quarter mile we saw Shawn Stacy emerge Victorious with an 11.021 run on a 10.97 dial.
Sportsman Division had 32 drivers stage in the first round, and 12 returned with buy backs. At the start of the Quarter Finals, Yolanda Spencer received the buy run. Up next was Ricky Shepherd and Donnie Evans, Shepherd dialing a 12.29 and Evans a 14.52. The reaction time battle was won by Shepherd with a .550 light and so would the finish line battle. Shepherd ran a 12.388 on a 12.29 dial. Up next was Dennis Young against Jason Shepherd, Young would dial a 12.24 to Shepherd’s 17.92. As the Pair left the Starting line Young had the better reaction time, with a .542 at the big end Young held off Shepherd with a 12.278 run on a 12.24 dial. Next up would be the pairing of Joe Cloran and Harold Young. Cloran would dial a 15.08 and Young a 13.41. At the tree it would be Cloran with the advantage with a .543 light. The pair approached the win line, with Cloran being the winner with a 15.141 run on a 15.08 dial. In the Semi Final Round it was Dennis Young versus Joe Cloran. Young would dial in a 12.20 to Cloran’s 15.12. At the quarter mile finish Dennis young would continue on with a 12.265 run on a 12.20 dial. Ricky Shepherd faced off with Yolanda Spencer to see who would face Young in the Finals. Spencer dialing a 12.28, and Shepherd a 16.42. Off the line it was Shepherd with a .595, he was able to translate that into the win light at the big end after a 12.316 run. In the Finals Dennis young and Ricky Shepherd made it an all winner final. Young dialed a 12.23 at the line to Shepherd’s 12.30. As the tree fell, Shepherd had the better reaction with a .594 light, however Young pulled around in a double breakout win running a 12.214 on a 12.23 dial.
Pro Bike Action heated up with 29 bike staging first round, 10 buy backs pushed it to 39 after all were finished. In the quarter finals we saw Kaw Boy Bob Nugent facing Mike McGrath. Nugent would dial in a 9.73, to McGrath’s 10.06. McGrath had the advantage pulling away with a .532 light, but Nugent made the pass, running a 9.827 for the win. Larry Hunter and Brian Poe were up next, Poe dialed a 9.20 to Hunter’s 11.04. Poe would have the chance with a .542 reaction, it would translate into a finish line win with a 9.285 run. Russ Withem was up next with a 10.14 dial against Jessie Sowers dialing a 9.80. The pair was close at the launch with Sowers having the advantage with a .528 light. As the two rider got to the finish line, it would be Jessie Sowers with a 9.823 run for the win light. Sam Cotterman had the bye run into the next round. In semi finals it was Nugent and Cotterman when a problem at the Starting Line ended Cotterman's night early, moving Nugent into yet another final! Up next was Poe and Jessie Sowers. Poe would dial a 9.19 and Sowers a 9.80. Off the tree Sowers had the advantage but Poe made the midtrack pass for the win light running a 9.213 on a 9.19 dial. Finals had Bob Nugent and Brian Poe facing off, Nugent would dial a 9.61 to Poe’s 9.20. Nugent was able to get the better reaction time with a .523 but Once again it was Poe passing midtrack for the win light, with a 9.201 run on a 9.20 dial!
