Christy Morgan-Back Wins the Quick 16!!
Saturday’s Drag racing action began at 12 for a full day of racing including the quick 16 race. Ine the Quick Door category, the first pair to run was Terry Terrell and Wayne Angell. Terrell would dial a 5.74 to Angell’s 5.80. As the tree came down, Angell would be off better with a .518 reaction time. The reaction time advantage would translate into a win light for Angell with a 5.864 run. Up next was Jeff Sexton, and Michael Barrett. Sexton would come to the tree dialing in a 5.05, and Barrett a 5.92. It would be Barrett with the reaction time advantage, but ran it too fast and broke out with a 5.917 run, that would move Sexton to the next round. Up next was Jason Cook and Bob Burns. Cook would dial a 5.70, and Burns a 5.91. As the tree released the pair it would be Cook with a .533 light off the line better. At the finish line we saw the win light goto Jason Cook with a 5.724 run. Last pair to the line for the round, as Tony McFall and Joey Thornsberry. McFall dialed a 5.97 and Thornsberry a 4.74. AS the pair left the tree, it was McFall with the starting Line advantage, with a .522 light. As the pair went to the finish line, the win light showed for Tony McFall with a 6.047 run. In the Door Car semi finals, Wayne Agnell faced Tony McFall, Angell went red with a .497, moving McFall to the next round. Jeff Sexton and Jason Cook were the next pair up to see who would face McFall in the next round. Cook dialed in a 5.71 and Sexton a 5.05. As the ppair pulled away from the starting line, Sexton would have the advantage with a .526 light. The starting line advantage would translate into a win light with a 5.080. In the Door Car finals, Jeff Sexton would face Tony Mcfall to see who would represent the Door Car class in the Quick 16 Final. Sexton dialed in with a 5.03, and Mcfall a 5.93. Mcfall had the advantage at the starting line with a .536, however Sexton was able to run on and make the pass for the win with a 5.042 run. In the Quick Dragster Category, the first pair to the line would be JR Lockhart and Eddie Lykins. Lockhart dialed in a 5.35 to Lykins’ 4.53. Reaction time advantage would go to Lockhart with a .512 light, however Lykins ran past with a 4.538 run dead on the dial for the win. Mike Maggard and Christy Morgan-Back would be up next. Maggard would dial a 4.67, and Christy a 4.91. the advantage at the starting line would go to Christy with a .530 light, which would be enough for the win, with a 4.923 run. Billy Back and Mike Booher were the next pair of dragsters to pull to the line. Back would dial in a 4.81 and Booher a 4.70. Booher pulled a red light moving Back to the next round. Final pair for the round, would face Tim Thatcher against Dean Karns Jr. Thatcher dialed a 5.10 and Karns a 4.60. Thatcher left early and received a red light moving Karns in to the next round. In the Next round it would be Billy Back against Eddie Lykins. Back would dial a 4.78, and Lykins a 4.53. Lykins would have the starting line advantage with a .515 light, but Back would make the pass midtrack for the win light with a 4.808 run. Up next it would be Christy Morgan-Back and Dan Karns Jr to See who would face Billy Back in the next round. Karns pulled away with a red light, sending Christy to face her own husband in the Quick Dragster finals! Husband and wife staged up against each other to see who wuld represent the dragster class in the Quick 16 Finals. Christy would dial a 4.85, and Billy a 4.78 in the All Back Final. Christy was away better at the line with a .522, and that would be enough to hold off husband Billy for the win. Christy would go on to face off with Jeff Sexton in the Quick Finals. In the Quick Final it would be Christy Morgan-Back and Jeff Sexton to battle it out for the honor of the quick! Christy dialed a 4.85, and Jeff a 5.01. As they left the tree we saw a better reaction time for Christy with a .525 light, it would be enough to get the win light with a 4.888 run.
Super Pro began a great day of racing as the bracket went to the quarter finals, here is what happened. Rich Evan would face Mike Brown, in the first pair. Rich Evan dialed a 6.67 and Brown dialed a 5.32. Rich Evanwould record a reaction time of .518 and the advantage was too much for Brown to overcome. Rich Evan ran a 6.679 on a 6.67 dial. Up next Richard Hammond would face James Emrick for the next pair. Hammond would dial a 5.46 to Emrick’s 6.58. Difficulty at the starting line for Emrick would send Hammond on to the next round after a 5.460 run. Up next would be Mikey Sturgill for the Bye run. In the Semi Finals Rich Evan would receive the Bye run into the next round. The next two up at the line would be Mikey Sturgill and Richard Hammond. Hammond would dial a 5.45 and Stugill a 4.98. As the pair left the line it would be Hammond with the advantage cutting a .510 light. As they head down the track the win light would go to Richard Hammond with a 5.477 run. In the Finals it was Hammond against Rich Evan. Hammond would dial a 5.46 and Evan a 6.67. Evan would have a slight advantage off the starting line with a .514 to Evan’s .519. As the pair went down the track, it was Richard Hammond receiving the win light on a 5.460 run.
Pro Bike division saw Brad Shellhaas pair up against Nathan Thatcher in the quarters. Shellhaas dialed an 8.97 and Thatcher a 9.47. Shellhaas had the startingline advantage with a .523 light and that would be enough to translate to a win light with a 9.041 run. Up next was Bob Nugent and Burt Exman, Nugent would dial a 9.64 to Exman’s 8.51. Off the tree the reaction time advantage went to Exman with a .521 light, he was able to hold Nugent off to get the win light with an 8.512 run. Alan Stamper would receive the Bye in into the next round. In the Semi Finals it was Brad Sheelhaas to face off with Alan Stamper. Sheelhaas would dial in with a 9.02 to Stampers 9.81. As they left the starting line, Stamper had the advantage with a .519 light, but a double breakout win would move Sheelhaas on to the next round. Burt Exman received the Bye into the finals. In the final round it was Shellhaas against Exman. Sheelhaas would dial a 9.01 to Exman’s 8.51. Off the line it was close with only 0.01 seconds difference. The small advantage went to Shellhaas. Down the track it would be a breakout win for Shellhaas as Exman ran under with a 8.508 on an 8.51 dial.
In the pro Bracket it was Jason Wheatcraft staging next to Dave Cox to start the Quarter finals. Wheatcraft dialed a 10.81, and Cox a 10.41. Cox had the advantage off the line with a .510 light, which would translate into the win after a 10.055 run. Up next would be Bill Haag and Chris Snyder. Haag would dial in at 10.27 and Snyder an 11.63. As the pair left the line, it would be Haag with the advantage cutting a .563 light. The win light went to Haag after a 10.339 run. Last pair to run for th round, was Gayle Weeks and Mike Gill. Weaks dialed the machine in at a 10.56 and Gill a 10.15. Gill would get the advantage at the light with a .551 Reaction, which translated into a win light for Weaks with a 10.642 run. In the Semi Finals it was Mike Gill and Bill Haag for the first pair. Haag dialed in at a 10.27 to Gill’s 10.15. At the line it was Haag off the line better with a .544 light. The win light would go on for Bill Haag after a 10.274 run. Up next was Dave Cox for the Bye run to face Haag in the finals. Bill Haag and Dave Cox Battled it out in the final round, Haag dialed a 10.26 and Cox a 10.04. Haag was better off the line with a .573 light, but Cox was closer to the dial with a 10.044 run for the win.
In Sportsman quarters we saw Ricky Shpherd and Brian Collier stage for the first pair. Shepherd would dial a 12.29, and Collier a 13.60. Collier was better off the tree with a .535 light and that would translate into a win after a 13.622 run. Up next is Mike McGriff and Joe Cloran. Cloran had the advantage with a .591 light that would translate into a win after a 15.345 run. Up next was Dennis Young and Alan Flora. Young would red light and move Flora to the next round. Last pair for the round was Don Graley against Lanie Paul. Graley dialed a 12.95 to Paul’s 15.22. Paul would be better off the line with a .693 light which he would translate into a winlight at the quarter mile after running 15.226. In Sportsman semi finals Joe Cloran faced Brian Collier. Cloran dialed a 15.33, to Colliers 13.62. Collier made it off the line with a .581 lightand that advantage was enough to put him in the next round after a 13.647 run. Up next was Alan Flora and Lanie Paul to see who would face Collie in the finals. Flora dialed a 12.55 to Pauls 15.22. As the pair went to the tree it was Flora with the advantage but Paul would be closer to the dial running a 15.259 for the win. Final round action pitted Lanie Paul against Brian Collier. Paul dialing in at 15.22 and Collier at 13.64. The reaction time battle went to Collier with a .540 which he turned into the win with a 13.753 run!
In Junior Dragsters it was Billy Sellman with the Bryttney Sheppeard in the first pair. Sellman would go red, moving Bryttney to the next round. Next up was Matt Spradlin and Shwan Pitts. Pitts would also go red moving Spradlin to the next round. In the last pairing for the round it was Brittany Adams and Ryan Jenks up next. Adams dialed in an 8.82 Jenks an 8.65. As they saw the tree come down it was Jenks with a .519 light for the advantage. At the 1/8 mile we saw win light for Jenks with an 8.768 run. In the Semis it would be Matt Spradlin and Ryan Jenks Pairing up. Spradlin dialed a 9.42, and Jenks an 8.65. reaction times were close as both were in the .60 range. But it would be Spradlin with the advantage that gave him the win on a double breakout 9.409 run. Bryttany Sheppeard had the bye into the next round. In the Finals Spradlin faced Sheppeard. Spradlin dialed in a 9.40, and Sheppeard a 9.00. Spradlin had the Starting line adavtage once again, he would run down the track for a breakout win going 9.439, Sheppeard went an 8.971.
In high School Aaron Sprauer faced Kevin Butts for the Semis, Butts went red moving Sprauer to face Jason Parriman who had the Bye run. In the finals we would see Sprauer dial a 17.45 to Parriman’s 14.19. Sprauer was away better at the line with a .565 light that would be enough to translate into the win light after a 17.572 run.
