Saturday’s drag racing action kicked off with over 200 cars staging for the first round of competition.
In the Super Pro quarters it was buy back runner 3448 pairing up against a339. 3448 dialed in a 5.35 and a339. It was 3448 with the better reaction time, a .521 but it was A3396 with the double breakout win running a 6.846. In the next pair it was Jim Perkins against x382. Perkins dialed a 4.77 and X382 a 6.51. X382 saw a red-light start which moved Perkins on to the next round. Buy Back Runner 376R got the Bye run into the next round. 376R faced Jim Perkins in the semis. It was very close off the tree the difference was .0001 seconds, Perkins ran under moving 337A to the next round. A339 had the Bye run into the finals Buy Back racers ruled the finals with 376R and A339 pairing up. A339 had the better reaction time with a .511, coupled with a 6.886 run for the win!
In Pro it was Craig Smith with the Bye Run into the Semis. Gwayne Honeycutt and Johnny Vanover paired up next for the right to continue on. Honeycutt dialed a 10.21 and Vanover a 12.38. As the pair went to the tree the reaction time battle was won by Vanover, with a .534. Both racers poured on the coal, and ran under, making Gwayne Honeycutt the double breakout winner, with a 10.190 run. The Last pair for quarters were Buy Backs, 338K and 343A paired up to battle it out. 338K dialed a 9.99, and 343A an 11.85. 338K ran a redlight moving 343A to the Semis. In the semis it was Craig Smith and Gwayne Honeycutt pairing up. Smith dialed an 11.90 to Honeycutt’s 10.17. Honeycutt was off the line with a .509 for the advantage coupled with a 10.211 run in the Nova for the win! 343A had the Bye run into the finals. In the finals it was 343A and Gwayne Honeycutt pairing up. 343A dialed an 11.86 to Honeycutt’s 10.19. Honeycutt once again with the reaction time advantage with a .559. At the finish line it was Gwayne Honeycutt with the win after a 10.252 run.
In Sportsman quarters it was Ricky Shepherd running K308. K308 had the better reaction time with a .537 light, but broke out with a 12.544 run moving Shepherd to the next round. Up next it was KK102 and Doug Caplinger at the line. KK102 dialed a 13.98 to Caplinger’s 12.00. Caplinger was the faster off the tree with a .600 light. The starting line advantage and a 12.046 run moved Caplinger to the next round. Steve Collier got the Bye run into the next round. In the Semis it was Ricky Shepherd facing Steve Collier Shepherd dialed a 12.23 to Collier’s 17.26. Shepherd made the move at the starting line with a .514 light and that with a 12.325 run made him the winner to face Doug Caplinger who got the Bye into the Finals to face Shepherd. In the Finals it was Shepherd dialing a 12.27 to Caplinger’s 12.00. A .520 light gave Shepherd the advantage, however Caplinger ran it better with a 12.046 for the win.
Pro Bike Semis saw Bob Nugent face Perry Dog Sowers as they tried to make it to the finals. Sowers would get a redlight, moving Nugent to the next round. The remaining pair would be Roger Wilhelm and David Sawyer staging up. Wilhelm dialed a 9.71 and Sawyer an 8.76. a close battle at the line saw a .524 for Wilhelm with the advantage, however Sawyer made the pass with a 8.884 run, to move into the next round. Final round action saw Nugent and Sawyer pair up. Nugent would dial a 9.61 to Sawyer’s 8.76. Sawyer had the better light with a .516, but Nugent was better to the finish line, with a 9.678 run for his fourth win of the season!
In High School Finals it was Brian Hurst Facing Josh Toler. Hurst dialed a 17.01 to Toler's 16.22. Hurst was the better of the two off of the tree, with a .595 light. Toler pushed hard, as well as Hurst, with the double breakout win it would be Brian Hurst running a 16.982 for the win!
Junior Dragster Finals saw Ceslie Shellhaas and Emily Kathe for an all Girl Power Final! Shellhaas dialed in a 9.67 and Kathe a 7.90. Kathe pulled a redlight making Ceslie Shellhaas the winner on Super Saturday!
