It
has been thought that the event at Kil-Kare Dragway might be a
pivotal mid-season point in the NHRA Jeg’s Super Quick Series.
Thomas Smith is hoping so as he won the event and jumped into the
points lead with three of nine 2006 series races remaining. The final was indicative of the evening’s racing as Smith’s .004-second margin of victory over
Brian Napier came on the starting line. Both drivers were .015 over
their dial-ins as Smith recorded a 4.535 at 156.27 mph to Napier’s a
4.545 at 149.13 mph effort. It was Napier’s second runner-up finish
of the year, moving him into fourth in the standings. Napier also
picked up the Pit Pal Products Perfect Dial-in bonus in the second
round with a 4.530. Not
only did Smith win the event, his second series Wally, he also led
qualifying among the open wheel entries with a 4.506, 158.49 mph and
collected the Gebhardt Trailer Sales Bounty Hunter Bonus by holding
off all comers. Ed
Beyer qualified as the quickest bodied car entry with a 4.545 at
157.94 mph and his ’03 Grand Am was selected as the Be Cool
Radiators Coolest Car of the Event. Beyer made it to the semi-final
