Kil-Kare Dragway held its second race of the year Saturday, 170 competitors showed for competition, on the first Saturday with Buy Backs. The pro class saw an increased purse, paying $600 to win and $300 to Runner up. Time run sessions Began around 11:30 and continued through to 3:00.

 

        Super Pro

          In the Super Pro Money rounds Luke Williams and Jay Fedkow would pair up for the first run of he day. Fedkow of Dayton, and Williams of Dayton. Williams dialed a 6.60 and Fedkow a 5.50. The red-light came up for the Fedkow machine, giving Williams the go ahead for the next round. Matt Barrett and Steve Taylor was at the tree next. Barrett dialing in a 5.81 and Taylor 5.05, reactions times were .525 for Barrett and .507 for Taylor. Preston White and Mark Griffith faced off Preston White dialed in a 6.46, and Griffith dialed 5.15. Griffith fouled with a .486 moving Preston White onto the next round. Up next was Ron Baisden to face Jason Ford. Baisden's 77 Lemans dialed to 6.46, and Fords dragster a 5.14. at the tree Ford was off better with a .521 light to Baisden’s .541, at the finish Ford would return after a 5.157 run with the breakout for Baisden running 6.45. Randy Stutz was the recipient of the buy run.   

Quarter final action saw Randy Stutz and Preston White face off for the first pair of runs. Preston White dialing a 6.46, and Stutz a 6.21. On the line Stutz was better off of the tree with a .529 to the .524 in the left lane. Win light came on for Randy Stutz a 6.235 run for the win. Matt Barrett faced up with Luke Williams, Barrett with a 5.81 dial and Williams with a 6.60. Breakout bulb came on for the Williams machine under the dial by.0060, moving Matt Barrett in to the semifinals. Jason Ford received the Bye run and free ride into the next round.

          Semi Finals saw Randy Stutz run with Jason Ford and take the win light, sending Ford home for the night, and Matt Barrett with the Bye!

          Final Round was left with Matt Barrett and Randy Stutz in the box, Barrett dialing a 5.78 and Stutz a 6.23. Both driver made a clean exit from the starting line at the Eighth mile finish, win light went to Matt Barrett with a 5.791 run.

 

Pro Bike

         

Pro Bike Riders took full opportunity of the buy back situation, as every one eliminated in the first round, purchased a buy back to continue racing. In the quarter final round, Burt Exman saw Perry Sowers in the first pair. Sowers dialing an 9.63, and Exman and 8.70. Both riders pulled away with green lights only .002 difference in reaction time. When the win light came on it was for Perry Sowers, with a 9.251. Up next was Mike McGrath and Kaw Boy Bob Nugent. McGrath dialed a 01.18, and Nugent a 9.86. As the tree came down red light for McGrath gave Nugent the free ride to the next round. Pamela Guest would face Jeff Nye for the next run. An early withdrawal from the starting line earned Nye the red, moving Pamela Guest to the Semi Final Round.

          In the semi finals, Bob Nugent was up to race against Pamela Guest. Nugent would run a 9.97 on his 9.83 dial beating Pamela Guest to the finish line on her 10.823 run. Sowers came up for the bye run next.

          In the finals Perry Dog Sowers faced up with Kaw Boy Bob Nugent for all the marbles. Sowers dialed a 9.23, and Nugent a 9.78. Nugent was better off the line with a .525 to Sowers’ .545. It was all that Mr. Nugent needed to secure his victory, running a 9.789 dead on the 9.78 dial!

 

Pro

 

In the Money Round of the pro division, Michael Roberts faced Brian Quillen. Red light for Michael Roberts moved Quillen up to the next round. Ron Simko would face Don Anderson, Jr. next, for the right to continue on. After a red light for Anderson, Simko would enjoy the Semi final round. Jeff Stokes, and Bob Templin paired up next to run. Stokes dialed in a 10.80, and Templin a 10.19. Win light came on for Jeff Stokes for the 10.855, on the other lane 10.212 Templin. Up next, was James Sanders and defending Div. III Pro Champion Brian Fox. Sanders pulled a red light and Fox moved on to the next round. Up next was Bill Haag of Grove City dialing in at a 10.29 facing Gwayne Honeycutt of Urbana dialing a 10.20. Off the line the  .546 for Honeycutt made the difference as the win light came on for Honeycutt after a 10.249 on a 10.20 dial .

In the quarter finals Ron Simko paired up with Gwayne Honeycutt for their run. Simko's machine broke out, moving Gwayne Honeycutt on to the semi finals. Jeff Stokes and Bryan Fox were the next pair to the line. Fox dialed a 9.82 and Stokes a 10.82. Off the line Stokes was better, and able to hold off Fox with a 10.826 run on a 10.79 dial. Brian Quillen received the bye run and automatic advance to the next round.

In semi-finals Brian Quillen faced off against Brian Stokes. Stokes dialed a 10.78 This time, and Quillen an 11.52. As the tree came down, Quillen was better off of the line with a .569, however a breakout win to Stokes after Quillen ran an 11.518 on an 11.52 dial. Gwayne Honeycutt had the Bye to face Stokes in the finals!          It was 8:52 when the pro Final hit the track, pairing up was Brian Stokes and Gwayne Honeycutt. Stokes dialing a 10.79 and Honeycutt dialing a 10.16. As the tree came down, Stokes was away with a .529, that was all that was needed to get the win light, as Honeycutt couldn't make up the difference.

 

Sportsman

Sportsman action heated up with the Saturday day racing, quarter final action saw Sam Bunch and Ricky Shepherd pair up. Bunch dialed a 15.63 and Shepherd dialing a 17.87. bunch beat Shepherd at the tree with a .575. The pair raced towards the quarter mile finish line to see a win light for Ricky Shepherd running a 17.849, after a double breakout, Bunch ran  15.558. Terry Night and Charles Picklesimer were up next to battle it out for advancement. Knight of Dayton, and Picklesimer of New Carlisle at the big end, win light went to Charles Picklesimer, with a 12.049 run on a 12.00 dial. The last pair of racers for this round were Steve Collier and Phil Borton. Collier would dial a 17.10 in his Buick Century, and Borton a 12.15 in his Z28 Camaro. We saw the win light come on for Phil Borton after a red-light for Collier.

In the Semi Finals, Charles Picklesimer faced Ricky Shepherd, Picklesimer dialing a 12.00, and Shepherd dialing a 17.80. When the tree dropped, there was .011 difference in reaction times, win light would go to Ricky Shepherd for a 17.868 run on a 17.80 dial. Phil Borton received the Bye run into the Finals to face Ricky Shepherd.

Final Round started at about 8:48 with Phil Borton and Ricky Shepherd at the line. Borton dialed in at 12.23, and Shepherd dialed in at a 17.82.  Reaction times were a .510 for Borton, and a .5009 for Shepherd, at the finish line the win light went to Phil Borton of Urbana with a 12.272 run on a 12.23 dial.

 

There were no High School competitors on Saturday.
