April 1st marked the first racing of the 2006 Dragway season. The weather wasn’t ideal for racing activities, however no precipitation stopped the days event. Super Pro Bracket I In Super Pro 25 cars attended for the first money race of the year. Larry Fisher faced off with Luke Williams for the first of the quarter final rounds. At the Line Fisher from S. Vienna in the Chevelle with a dial of 6.76 and Williams of Dayton in his Vega dialing in at 6.56. The lights were as follows, Fisher with a .532 and Williams with a .517, to start off the round, at the finish line win light went to Larry Fisher running a 6.78 on a 6.76 dial, Williams followed with a 6.60 on a 6.56 dial. Up next was Roger Taylor from Beavercreek in his dragster against James Emrick of Tipp City in his 69 Camaro. Red Light visited Emrick giving Taylor the automatic advance to the Semis. Dean Karns Jr and Christy Morgan-Back were up next to see who would proceed to the Semi finals. Off the line, Morgan-Back was better with a .512 reaction, dialing in at 4.89, Karns left on a reaction time of .526 and dialing a 4.93. Eighth mile win light lit up for Christy Morgan-Back, as she ran a 4.91 to Karns’ 4.95. 2005 Super Pro Champion Jason Ford got the bye run in the quarters, advancing him to the semis. In the semi-final rounds up first was Larry Fisher and Christy Morgan-Back. Fisher staying with the 6.76 dial, would leave prior to Morgan-Back with her dial as a 4.90 this time! Leaving the line first was Fisher with a reaction time of .527, Morgan-Back launched second with a better reaction time of .531. Win light came on in the right lane for Christy Morgan-Back on her 4.90 run dead on the 4.90 dial! The next pair would see Jason ford and Roger Taylor pair up. Ford dialing in at 5.10 and Taylor dialing in at 5.06, there wasn’t much difference in the light timing. Reaction times were as follows, Ford with a .506 and Taylor with a .524. Ford was able to hold of Taylor on the 5.10 run once again dead on the dial. Which would put Ford and Morgan-Back in the finals! As the last pair of Super pro competitors hit the starting line for the final Jason Ford of Beavercreek staged with a 5.09 dial, and Christy Morgan-Back with a 4.89 Dial. Off the tree Ford was better cutting a .516 light and Morgan-Back a .526. Ford was able to hold Christy off and take the first win of the 2006 Drag Racing Season. PRO Bracket II In Pro quarter finals action, John Bosier of Sabina would face Jerry Walter of Jamestown. Bosier came to the line dialing an 11.81, and Walter with a 10.39. As the tree fell, Bosier was visited by the red light, giving Walter an automatic advance. Up next would be Matt Baird of West Carrolton, facing Joe Abstons of Springfield. Baird dialed in a 9.94 and Abstons an 11.52. As the tree came down, red lights came on this time for Matt Baird, giving Abstons the advance to the semi finals. Brett Randall was up next from Xenia to face Mike Burris of London. At the line Randall dialing in with a 9.82 and Burris an 11.52. As the tree came down both were green, Randal with a .501 and Burris with a 6.82. Randal was able to catch and pass Burris to take the win and advance to the next round! Ron Simko was the Bye recipient, giving him the easy way into the semi finals.
As the pro bracket headed into the Semi finals, Brett Randall and Jerry Walter would pair up for the first run. When they got to the line it was Randall dialing in a 9.82 again and Walter with a 10.40 this time. Reaction time advantage was for Randall as he cut a .521 to Walter’s .542. Win light came on once again for Brett Randall of Xenia moving him to the finals after a 9.85 run on the 9.82 dial. Next up was Ron Simko to face Joe Abstons of Springfield, Simko was dialing a 10.06and Abstons an 11.52. Off the line a red light went to Ron Simko pushing Abstons into the finals. Final round actions let Brett Randall face off with Joe Abstons. As the pair headed to the starting line, Randall dialed in with a 9.82 to Abctons 11.52. As the tree came down, randall launched early and saw the redlight which gave the win to Joe Abstons of Springfield! Sportsman Bracket III In Sportsman the field was set to battle for the win, In the quarter finals, Chris Castle and Keith Roberts were up first to see who would continue on in the days racing. Both racers from Fairborn, a battle between Castle’s 80 Malibu, and Roberts’ 02 Camaro. Dials were 17.11 for Castle and 12.63 for Roberts, as the tree came down, we saw reactions of .578 for Castle, and .618 for Roberts. At the big end the win light went to Keith Roberts of Fairborn, with a 12.65 run on a 12.63 Dial. Doug Caplinger and Walt Shade Jr. faced off next, 12.10 dial for Caplinger, and 12.83 for Shade. Off the tree Caplinger had the lead, with a .529 Reaction to Shades .597, win light goes to Doug Caplinger with a 12.17 run on a 12.10 dial. Mike McGriff was the Bye recipient, and advanced to the next round. In the Semi Finals Doug Caplinger and Mike McGriff were paired up for the first run. Caplinger with the red light gave McGriff the advance to the Finals. Kieth Roberts got the Bye run to face McGriff in the finals. Final round action saw Keith Roberts with a red light, to give McGriff the win light. PRO BIKE Pro Bike action heated up in the quarter final rounds Shannon Milnickle faced Kaw Boy Bob Nugent. Milnickle dialing in with a 9.37 and Nugent with a 9.80. Big end action produced the win light for Shannon Milnickle of West Milton with a 9.47 on a 9.37 run. An unnamed competitor driving a 2003 Harley Davidson faced off with Nathan Thatcher. The Harley dialed in a 15.20, and Thatcher with a 9.08. Off the line the Harley saw a reacton time of .555 and Thatcher a .526. The win light visited the right lane and rider Nathan Thatcher to move him on to the next round. Dave Beavers was up next with the Bye Run and the automatic advance to the next round. In the semi finals, Dave Beavers faced Nathan Thatcher, on the line Beavers had a better reaction time with a .533 to Thatcher’s .552, however Beavers not able to hold off the Thatcher ride. The win light goes to Nathan Thatcher for a 9.21 on a 9.08 dial. Shannon Milnickle got the Bye run in the Semi’s to face Nathan Thatcher in the Finals. Shannon Milnickle of West Milton faced of with Nathan Thatcher of Dayton. Dial for Milnickle was a 9.24, and Thatcher a 9.20. Milnickle had the better light, with a .566 and Thatcher with a .570. Thatcher was able to ride past Milnickle for the win light and the money for the first race of the year! |
