Rain Ruins Kil-Kare
Program
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH. (9/7) - Rain moved
into Kil-Kare Speedway during the modified feature
forcing the remainder of the events to be postponed
until next week when the NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series late models will run double features and
complete the remainder of the modified feature.
Shawn Stroble made his late
model debut a winning one as he held off a bunch of
hard charging drivers taking the first heat over Jamie
Hunt, Tim Rauch, and Tony Brunke. Virgil Powell
jumped out front in the second heat as Terry Scherz
held on to second until two laps to go when Justin
Alsip slipped by to take the win. With Alsip second
Scherz was third with Russ Bobb fourth..
Derek Weatherhead and Terry
Humphrey brought the Muffler Brothers of Xenia
modifieds to the line with Weatherhead and Humphrey
waging a side by side battle with Weatherhead surging
ahead only to see the caution come out on lap three
when Rodney Kreusch spun on turn three. Also at the
same time the rain started to fall and the cars were
sent to the pits. The event will be completed next
Friday
Mark Timmerman was home
first in the modified heat with Terry Humphrey
second followed by Jack Jones and Shawn Stroble. The
second heat went to young Shawn Stansell as he barely
beat a fast charging Jason Mahaffey with Dewayne
Snyder Jr., third and Rodney Kreusch fourth.
The sport stock feature had
one false start and then just as the green flew again
Rusty Clark brought the yellow out when he spun on the
frontstretch. When back underway pole starter Heath
White took the lead with Tom Williams second but Mike
South Sr. displaced Williams for second on to see the
red flag come out on lap three when Tom Williams lost
a wheel. Heath continued to lead, putting some
distance on the field when the caution came out when
Clark spun on turn three. White, of Springfield
continued to lead to the checker claiming his first
feature of the year. Mike South Sr. and Dave Lecocq
put on a side by side battle for second with South
taking the spot and Lecocq third. Derek Louderback was
fourth and Mike South Jr fifth.
The Oakley Blacktop
Compact took to the track with seventeen cars heading
for starter Mike Stapleton's green flag with Jerry
Lachman and Troy Patterson leading the field with
Jerry Lachman taking the lead. He pulled away from the
field but soon he would be challenged. Behind him fast
timer Chris Boggs, Tim Haerr, and Randy Walton were
having a nip and tuck battle for positions. As the
laps wore down Haerr was able to move in on Lachman
and a little contact happened as they exited turn four
with Lachman barely taking the win, his second of the
year. With Haerr second, Walton ended up third
followed closely by Boggs and then Darryl Young.
Coming up next Friday will
be race car rides and penny scramble for the kids with
the late models running double features ,
modifieds, sport stocks, and compacts providing the
action with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing at
8 p.m.
