Allensworth Tops Kil-Kare's Busy
Night
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH. (5/18) - It was a
full night of events at Kil-Kare Speedway Friday night on Miami
Valley AAA night with the KOIL Legend Cars and Bandoleros added to
the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series events.
For second fast late model
driver Tim Allensworth the long ride back to Coshocton, Ohio was a
sweet one as he captured his second win of the season.
Jamie Hunt and Virgil Powell
led the field to the green in the 30 lap main event with Hunt
showing as the leader at the stripe as Powell, Darrell Norman and
John Vallo as the top four cars ran lap after lap side by side.
Vallo was able to move into second on lap five and then managed to
pull up alongside Hunt. The two ran nip and tuck side by side and it
was anybody's guess as to who would show on the scoreboard as the
leader. Riding right behind the first four was steady driving Donnie
Renner.
By lap seven two time winner
Gary Estes had advanced from ninth to third as eighth place starter
Allensworth caught Renner for fourth with Renner making it five cars
now running as if under a blanket. As Vallo and Hunt continued to
swap the lead Vallo spun on turn four with Hunt in command on the
single file restart.
Allensworth poured the power
to his mount and showed as the leader on lap five to stay in command
until the checker waved. Hunt, in quest of his first Kil-Kare
feature win had to settle for second with Vallo third, Virgil Powell
fourth, and Jamie Sites fifth.
Fast time went to Estes with a
clocking of 13.709 while the heats were won by Ricky Bates and
Estes.
It took three attempts to get
the Muffler Brothers of Xenia modified feature underway. The two gal
driver, Jamie Brenneman and Kim Dill led the field for the start
with Brenneman setting the pace for the first seven laps as Shawn
Stansell was right there in second but here came fifth place starter
Terry Humphrey into third as the caution flag flew on lap six as
Stansell spun on turn four. On the restart Humphrey stole the lead
from Brenneman with eighth place starter Jerry Stapleton who had his
eyes set on leader Humphrey with Steve Foster advancing to third.
Brenneman tried to hold off Shawn Stroble and the two tangled
bringing out the second caution flag.
On the restart Stapleton
tried to pass Humphrey on the outside lap after lap but the caution
came back out on lap twenty four when Stapleton apparently bumped
Humphrey causing Humphrey to spin and Stapleton sent to the tail.
Foster, making his first appearance of the season crossed the finish
line second but was delegated to last as he failed to report for
required post race inspection. This moved Stroble into the runner-up
slot with Derek Weatherhead third, Stapleton fourth, and Stansell
fifth.
Weather head had fast time of
14.143. Humphrey captured his heat with the second heat going to
rookie Dewayne Snyder Jr. for his first win of his career.
It has been four years in
trying to win a feature and sports stock driver Derek Louderbach
finally received his reward Friday night. He and Jay Laykins Jr.
started in the front row with second generation driver Laykins
showing as the leader the first two laps. From then on it was
Louderbach out front but another second generation driver, Shane
Williams had came from sixth to second but did not have the
horsepower to catch the determined Louderback. Williams and last
years champ Tom Williams along with Dave lecocq were fighting for
runner-up money but when the checker waved they crossed the finish
line in that order. Rusty Clark rounder out the top five.
Fast timer was Mike South Jr.
at 15.193 with heat wins going to Tom Williams and Lecocq.
Three time Oakley Blacktop
compact driver Tim Haerr was fast timer (15.002) has his win streak
of three halted as a newcomer appeared in victory lane. Like sport
stock driver Derek Louderbach, Bo Hoelscher had been winless in four
years but he turned the tables Friday. Paul Holley led the
first three laps but on the move was Hoelscher from his sixth place
starting slot. Lap four showed him as the leader but second
generation driver Jess Drook was chasing Hoelscher across the
finish line to claim runner-up honors for the first time. Haerr,
well he had to settle third followed by last years champ Randy
Walton and Chris Boggs.
Haerr did not go winless
though as he started tenth in the Australian pursuit and when the
check waved it was he in victory lane.
The KOIL Legend Cars made
their first appearance of the season with twenty-one cars starting
the twenty-five lap feature. Tyler Nuckles led the first two laps
but defending series champ Toby Alfrey slipped inside of Nuckles to
take the lead. Tyler continued to hold down second until his cousin
Bryan Nuckles slipped by to take over the second place spot and that
is the way the top three finished. Byron Stowe and Rob Jones rounded
out the top five.
Heat wins went to Tyler
Nuckles, Jason Powers, and Scott Menlen.
Fifteen year old Dustin Sword
scored his first ever Kil-Kare bandoleros feature win as he led
Ethan Burgess, Brandon Nelson, Casey Moore, and Ty Rose home first.
Heats went to Burgess and Sword.
Next Friday night Kil-Kare
will present the first of two big school bus figure-8 event followed
by a school bus demolition derby plus a regular program of events
with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
