Allensworth Rules Kil-Kare
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH. (5/4) - It was
definitely Tim Allensworth night at Friday at Kil-Kare Speedway as
the Coshocton resident started off by setting fast time of 13.849
and then capped the evening by capturing the 30 lap NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series late model feature.
Twenty-one fine late models
were on hand with twenty of them starting the main event.
Former legends car driver
Terry Scherz and Jamie Hunt brought the field to starter Mike
Stapleton's green flag but it was Hunt that jumped into the lead as
Schertz faded back in the field. It soon developed into a four car
battle in one of the most exciting features in a long time as John
Vallo, Gary Estes, and Tony Brunke were swapping positions behind
Hunt.
Seventh place starter
Allensworth in his RaceOasis.com sponsored machine was on the move.
By lap nineteen he was in second and then he zeroed in on leader
Hunt. Side by side they ran but it was Allensworth nudging ahead to
score his first win of the season. Allensworth applauded Hunt in
victory lane for racing him clean even though they did bump a couple
of times.
With Hunt claiming second,
sixth place starter Estes was home third followed by Vallo and
Brunke.

Estes won the first heat while
Justin Alsip, after a long absence from Kil-Kare scored the other
heat win.
Just like the late models it
was the same in the Muffler Brothers of Xenia modifieds as the fast
timer won the feature. Seasoned veteran Terry Humphrey in his own
Humphrey Engine Service open-wheeler set fast time of 14.091 and the
was home first in the main event.
Second year
modified driver Shawn Stansell and Gary Estes led the field to the
green flag with Estes taking the lead but the pressure was on him as
opening nights winner Shawn Stroble and Humphrey were right on his
rear bumper with Stroble and showing in second but a bobble coming
out of turn four dropped him to third. A few laps later leader Estes
bobbled with Humphrey gaining the front spot for the win with Derek
Weatherhead charging into second at the checker with Estes third.
Shawn Stansell got around Stroble for fourth with Stroble fifth.
Estes picked up his second
straight heat win with Rodney Kreusch taking the second heat.

It was sport stock super
Friday and for Rusty Clark the number one on his car may have been
coincidental in the 40 lap feature as he started in the number one
slot and stayed there all the way to the checker. Mike South Jr.
started alongside Clark but it was the opening nights winner Dave
Lecocq moving into second followed by fifth place starter and
defending track champ Tom Williams. Clark didn't let the pressure
bother him as be brought his Harveysburg Towing Camaro home ahead of
Lecocq, Williams, South, and Derek Louderbach.
Fast time went to Billy
Ritchie (15.038) for the second time with the heat wins going to
South Jr. and Jason Evans.

Being fast qualifier in the
compacts paid off for former champ Tim Haerr and his Mahaffey Auto
Parts machine. With a clocking of 15.148 he found himself starting
seventh in the feature. Front row starters Jerry Lachman and Paul
Holly put on quite a battle for the lead but here came Haerr,
snatching the lead on lap six leaving Holly and Chris Boggs to
battle for runner-up. Holly dropped back enabling Lachman to hold
onto second place but in a daring last lap pass Boggs nipped Lachman
for second. Following third place finisher Lachman was Jess Drook
and Holly.
