Xenia, OH. - It might be a
long ride from Coshocton, Ohio on Friday nights to Kil-Kare
Speedway for NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late model
driver Tim Allensworth but when you win the ride home seems
much shorter. And short it was Friday night as he tied
Miamisburg driver Gary Estes in feature wins, winning his
third of the season in his RaceOasis.com sponsored #24.
Former legends car driver
Terry Scherz and Jamie Hunt brought the eighteen car field
to the green flag with Hunt shooting into the lead
with fourth place starter John Vallo almost immediately
moving up to challenge Hunt. Vallo made an outside pass
around Hunt to show as the leader on lap three but coming on
strong was sixth place starter Allensworth. Vallo enjoyed
the lead for four laps and then it was Allensworth on the
outside passing Vallo and from then on it was Allensworth
all the way to the checker to win by five seconds over
runner-up Vallo.
Donnie Renner was slowly
creeping up on third place running Hunt and made his pass
good on lap sixteen with Estes following right along to drop
Hunt to fifth. Estes tried to catch Renner but Renner was
able to shake him off as he claimed third place money with
Estes fourth and Hunt fifth.
Estes led the qualifying
with a time of 13.841
You could not find a
happier driver in the Muffler Brothers of Xenia modifieds as
third generation driver Shawn Stansell of Kettering claimed
his first ever modified win.
Stansell started on the
outside front row along with Charlie Davis who was making
his first appearance of the season. Davis and Stansell
jockeyed back and forth for the lead but the scoreboard
showed Stansell the leader as they crossed the line. Fourth
place starter Gary Estes moved up to challenge Davis with
Estes taking over second position but here came two time
winner Terry Humphrey to challenge Davis and then another
two time winner, Shawn Stroble moved around Davis who later
spun on turn four.
The caution flag was
something Stansell did not want to see but the young driver
was able to hold off the veteran drivers to write his name
into the Kil-Kare history book for his first win. With Estes
second and Humphrey third, Stroble claimed fourth and fast
timer Derek Weatherhead (14.007) was fifth.
When the sport stocks took
to the track it was Rusty Clark and Dave Lecocq, both one
time winners bringing the field to the green but when the
checker waved it Lecocq taking the win to become the first
repeat winner this season.
Clark led the first two
laps but from then on it was Lecocq holding the front spot
while Clark was being challenged by defending champ Tom
Williams. Behind them Mike South Sr., Justin Miller, and
Shane Williams had their own little battle going on for
positions.
Lecocq won by three
seconds but Justin Miller was coming on strong and was
rapidly closing in on Miller when the checker waved.
Following second place finisher Miller was Tom Williams,
Clark, and South Sr.
Sixth place finisher Derek
Louderback was fast timer at 15.042.
Tim Haerr may have been
the fast timer (14.961) in the Oakley Blacktop compacts but
Jerry Lachman was just a slight bit quicker when it comes to
crossing the finish line for the checker.
Lachman and Jess Drook
started on the front row with Lachman taking command with
last years champ Randy Walton moving into second and Amber
Sites third. The first three laps saw the caution flag fly
on each lap due to tangles and spins and when the action
finally settled down four time winner Tim Haerr came from
seventh to put the pressure on Lachman as they both fought
for the lead. Haerr showed as the leader the last six laps
but Lachman wasn't about to give up as coming out of turn
four heading for the checker he barely beat Haerr to claim
his first ever feature win in his UNI sponsored machine.
The ARCA Lincoln Welders
Truck Series were on hand for their annual visit with former
Kil-Kare mini stock champ Ron Wells of Riverside topping the
twenty-two truck field in time trials with a time of 14.173.
When the green flag fell
on the field for the start of their 100 lap feature it was
Steve Cronenwett taking command followed Mike Young and
Wells. Wells moved into second on lap six and then passed
Cronenwett to take the lead on lap sixteen. Wells continued
to dominate the field but it was evident something was going
wrong with his truck and on lap sixty seven he parked it as
he had lost oil pressure. Nick Gullatta of Cleveland, Ohio
claimed the win, his first of his ARCA career followed by
Paul Hahn, Robbin Slaughter, Bill Withers, Steve Christman.
