Xenia, OH. (6/1) - The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Friday night at Kil-Kare Speedway saw two drivers repeat as feature winners and another claim his first one of the year before a nearly full grandstand.
Urbana's Shawn Stroble in the Sutphen Towers/Snap On Tool sponsored machine warmed up for the main event by capturing his heat event over Terry Humphrey, Steve Forster, and Jerry Stapleton.
In the thirty lap feature previous weeks winner Jerry Stapleton and Stroble started in the front row with Stapleton in the Underwood Vinyl & Tile machine taking the lead over Stroble leaving Terry Humphrey and Derek Weatherhead to battle for third. Stapleton, driving with one hand showed as the leader lap after lap but Stroble was trying the outside route lap after lap. As they ran side by side Stroble finally was successful in putting his #72 out front as starter Mike Stapleton waved the checker flag on the Muffler Brothers of Xenia modifeds. Second year driver Weatherhead was home third over veteran Humphrey with fifth going to fast timer (14.106) Steve Foster.
Kim Dill brought her D'Burg Auto Body sponsored machine home a winner in the other heat after holding off the challenges of Shawn Stansell who placed second with third going to Ray Muncy and Jamie Brenneman fourth.
Like Stroble in the modifieds, Mike South Jr. captured his heat and then returned to win the twenty lap feature.
South and defending track champ Tom Williams started on the front row and when the green dropped South took the lead but Williams was dogging him every lap. As South was busy holding off the challenging Williams Mike South Sr. was riding in third spot but behind him Rusty Clark, Dave Lecocq and Derek Louderbach were fighting for positions.
One time winner Louderbach saw his chance of good finish position go down the drain when he broke and axle and lost it and wheel on lap fifteen. Williams pulled up alongside of leader South on the restart but South was able to beat Williams to the checker  with third going to South Sr. followed by fast timer Lecocq (15.125), and Clark.
Following Mike South Jr. in the first heat was his father Mike Sr. with Louderbach third and Lecocq fourth. Jason "Jughead" Evans claimed the second heat win over Travis Digges, Jay Laykins Jr., and Rusty Clark.
Enon's Tim Haerr continued to rule the Oakley Blacktop sponsored compact division as he set fast time (15.015) and then came back to win the fifteen lap feature for the fourth time this year. Paul Holly had the pleasure of leading the first lap and then defending champ Randy Walton the next two as Haerr, known as the "Pizza Man" slipped inside of Walton on turn one and from then on it was the Mahaffey Auto Parts/The Pizza & Co. sponsored #8 of Haerr in command right down to the checker flag. Walton, who admitted his is still working the bugs out of his car was a close second followed by Chris Boggs, one time winner Bo Hoelscher, and Jess Drook.
Coming up Friday night, June 8, will be Modified Super Friday with a forty lap feature highlighting their division plus the late models, sport stocks, compacts, and KOIL Legends will see action with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
