Xenia, OH. (7/13 - It was a
full action packed night of racing Friday night at
Kil-Kare Speedway with six divisions on the racing card
which provided the good sized crowd with plenty of
excitement.
The top billing on the
card was the one thousand dollar to win forty lap modifed
feature which attracted a fine field of twenty four cars.
Former Kil-Kare regular Kyle Jones made his first
appearance of the season noticeable by posting fast time
of 13.832.
With an inversion of
three for the feature this put another former Kil-Kare
regular on the pole, Mike Stacy, along with second fast
timer Derek Weatherhead. Twenty-three cars started
the main which was short lived as a multi car pile-up
occurred on turn one on the first lap that took out the
cars of heat winner Josh Smith, Shawn Stansell, Dan
Williams, Charlie Davis, and Jamie Brenneman.
Stacy took the lead on
the restart followed by Weatherhead but third place
starter Jones dueled Weatherhead for second with Jones
finally succeeding leaving Shawn Stroble in a battle for
fourth behind Weatherhead. Mike Carroll entered the
picture as he moved up to fifth by lap five.
The first caution came
out on lap eight when Dick Dunlevy spun after being tapped
by Aaron Morey who was sent to the tail. It was the same
running order until the final caution came out on lap
twelve when Caleb Rescher last a tire that rolled half way
around the track.
On the restart Stacy and
his Tom Smith Wrecking sponsored open-wheeler held off the
challenge of Jones to keep the lead all the way to claim
the $1,000 with a full second lead over Jones. Stroble
collected third place money with Weatherhead fourth and
Carroll fifth.
Josh Smith and Rodney
Kreusch claimed the heat wins.
For the first time this
year the late model feature winner came from the first row
which made for an interesting front row. Second generation
driver Donnie Renner on the pole in the car that Tim
Allensworth piloted to victory the previous week and
Allensworth along side in his own car.
It was a heated battle
from the start between the two drivers as they battled
side by side until the caution came out on lap six for a
spinning car. Renner had showed as the leader on the
scoreboard and with a single file restart this put
Renner in a good position to hold onto for his first win
at Kil-Kare but it wasn't to be after a second caution
for Gary Estes who hit the turn one wall.
Renner held the lead
after the restart but here came six time winner
Allensworth on the outside trying to pass Renner. Lap
twenty doomed Renner's thoughts of a win as he spun coming
out of turn four and was delegated to the tail. For
Allensworth it was clear sailing to the checker to claim
his seventh win of the season.
Tony Brunke had his best
finish so far with a runner-up finish with John Vallo
third followed by Justin Alsip and Jeff Marsh.
Jamie Hunt had fast time
of 13.882 but was eliminated for the night after a crash
in his heat. Heat winners were Gary Estes and Justin
Alsip.
Dave Lecocq had little
trouble in winning the sport stock feature which ran non
stop after a lap two spin by Derek Louderbach even though
teammates Rusty Clark and Bret Clark sent up a cloud of
smoke as they locked together side by side but was able to
free themselves and continue.
Previous weeks winner
Mike South Sr. was one second behind the winner to claim
second place money with fast timer (14.964) Jay Lakins Jr.
home third. Mike South Jr. and Louderbach rounded out the
top five.
A fine field of twenty
Oakley Blacktop compacts faced the green flag for their
feature with Troy Patterson and Tim Haerr sitting on the
front row. Haerr got the jump on Patterson to take control
with the first caution appearing on lap two when Chris
Clark spun after contact with Amber Sites with Sites sent
to the tail.
Three laps later Paul
Holley brought the second caution out when he spun on the
backstretch collecting one of the big marker tires which
put him out of competition.
From then on it was
Haerr all the way to claim his sixth win of the season
with Aaron Harshbarger having his best finish so far
with a runner-up. Rounding out the top five was previous
weeks winner Gary Williams, Patterson, and Chris Boggs.
KOIL Legends stars Toby
Alfrey and Bryan Nuckles put on quite a show for a battle
for the front spot as Alfrey led the first six laps of
their feature but Nuckles was not content with following
Alfrey. Nuckles showed as the leader on lap five and
thereafter until the checker waved but Alfrey was not far
behind to claim second. Bryon Stowe, Tyler Nuckles, and
Ton Steffen rounded out the top five.
The young drivers of the
KOIL Bandoleros saw Dustin Sword take the feature over Ty
Rose, Donovan Ponder, Casey Moore, Jenna Jones, Zack
Dunsmore, Jake Dunsmore, Tyler Poe, Justin Campbell, Ethan
Burgess, Joe Schaffer
Campbell and Rose took
the heat wins.
Coming up on Friday June
20 will be Open Wheel Friday at Kil-Kare featuring the
young drivers of the USAC Ford Midgets, AMS Modifieds,
WSOA Winged Sprint Cars, and the vintage race cars of the
VARC organization. Gates open at 6 p.m. and racing at 8
