Stroble Claims Third
Modified Win at Kil-Kare
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH. (8/17)
Shawn Stroble and Derek Weatherhead started on the
front row of the Muffler Brothers of Xenia modified
feature Friday night at Kil-Kare Speedway with Stroble
jumping into the lead . From that point on Stroble
never gave up the lead but it was not an easy win as
previous weeks winner Terry Humphrey was dogging
Stroble right down to the checker. Stroble, of
Urbana claimed his second win of the year..
Humphrey tried an inside pass but Stroble was able to
shakie him off with Humphrey claiming second. Derek
Weatherhead ran right with the leaders to finish
third. After that it was a fight for the next
positions between Mike Miller, Jack Jones, and Gary
Eaton Jr. When the checker waved it was Jones fourth
and fifth was Miller.
Heat wins went to
Shawn Stansell and Jamie Brenneman who claimed her
first modified heat win.
The sport stock
feature was a dog fight all twenty laps between Dave
Lecocq and Justin Miller as five time winner Lecocq
led the first nineteen laps but when the checker waved
it was Miller beating Lecocq by a mere.023 seconds
over Lecocq in one of closes finishes of the season.
For Miller it was his first feature win at Kil-Kare in
the sport stock division. Heath White picked off his
opponents one by one from his seventh place starting
slot to claim third while Mike South Sr. was fourth
and his son Mike South Jr. was fifth.
Jay Lakins claimed
his first heat win of the year while the second heat
went to Derek Louderbach.
It was compact
Super Friday for the front wheel drive Oakley Blacktop
compacts with $250 up for grabs to the winner of the
forty lap feature. Twenty nine cars took starter Mike
Stapleton's green flag with Aaron Harshbarger taking
the lead on the first lap and that is just where he
stayed to collect his first feature win. Traffic was
heavy but Harshbarger did an excellent job weeding his
way around the slower cars. Randy Walton and Tim Haerr battled
for second with Haerr claiming runner-up money
and Walton third. Fourth was Gary Williams with Bo
Hoelscher fifth.
In the twenty five
lap KOIL Legends feature fifth place starter Bryan
Nuckles stole the lead on lap three from front row
starter Corey Smith. Adam Roberts took over second
place only to be sent to the tail after a mix up on
lap sixteen. Toby Alfrey moved up from his sixth place
starting slot to put the pressure on Nuckles but just
could not muster up enough speed to as settled
for second place money. Third was Smith followed
by Travis Boomer with Roberts coming all the way up
from his tail end penalty to finish fifth.
The fifteen lap
KOIL Bandoloers feature saw heat winner Dustin Sword
claim his second feature in a row. Justin Campbell was
a distance second followed by Brandon Nelson, Tyler
Poe, and Jake Dunsmore.
Heat wins went to
Dustin Sword and Justin Campbell.
The late model
feature was the last event on the program with
seventeen cars lining up for the start however the
event was short lived as a two car pile-up occured on
the first lap. Considering the lateness of the night
and the time to clear the track, track officials
postponed the event until August 31 at which time the
late models will run double features.
Next Friday night
will be a busy one as the fans will see the second
appearance of the big school bus Figure-8 and
demolition derby plus the usual Friday night divisions
will see action. The gates will open at 6 p.m. and
racing at 8 p.m. The next week will have race car
rides for the kids which is an exciting night for the
young fans.
