Kil-Kare July 21, 2007 Xenia, Ohio By: Alexis and Chelsea Gentry This past Saturday we had a great day racing, the weather was wonderful and we had the Jegs Super Quick 32 race at Kil-Kare. We had about 45 cars trying to make the 32-car field. It was also MVDRA round money night at Kil-Kare. After the final qualifying session Mike Bagley was able to take the number one spot by running a 4.5161 on a 4.50 index. In the quarter final round of the JEG's race Dean McIlvain from New Carlisle, Ohio competed against Jeff Hurst from Fairborn, Ohio. It was an almost identical start but Dean ran dead-on his dial and Jeff broke out. The next match-up was between Mark Griffith from New Carlisle, Ohio and number one qualifier Mike Bagley from Indianapolis, Indiana. Griffith had the starting line advantage and was able to hold on for the win. In the next match-up Al Peavler from Olney, Illinois defeated Ken Storey from Sebree, Kentucky. The final race of the round was between Joe Rook from Okeanan, Ohio defeated Tony Athcison from Greenville. Illinois.
In the semi final round we watched Dean McIlvain get the starting line advantage over Joe Rook. The starting line advantage was all that was needed for Dean to take the win and advance to the final round. In the last match up of the semi finals Mark Griffith defeated Al Peavler by getting the starting line advantage. In the final Dean McIlvain had a .536 light to Mark Griffith’s .532 light. Dean ran a 4.56 on a 4.56 and Mark ran a 4.54 on a 4.56 breaking out and giving Dean the win. In bracket one we had a good turnout of cars. We had many people from the jegs race also competing in bracket one. In the quarterfinals we saw Mike Sturgill from Beavercreek, Ohio defeat Jason Cook from Springfield, Ohio. The next match-up was Michael Roberts from Huber Heights, Ohio and Leon Bryan from Jamestown, Ohio. Michael had the starting line advantage and was able to take the win. Christy Morgan-Back from New Carlisle, Ohio defeated Ryan Burba from Beavercreek, Ohio. In the final race of the round Greg Kain from Kettering, Ohio received the bye run into the semi finals. In the semi finals Greg Kain faced off against Christy Morgan-Back, the race was close but in the end Greg advanced to the final round. In the other semi final match up Mike Sturgill defeated Michael Roberts to advance to the final round. In the final round Mike Sturgill cut a .506 light to Kain’s .547 light. Both drivers were able to run on their dial in but in the end Sturgill’s light was enough for him to hold of Kain for the win. In the quarterfinals Steve Collier from Xenia, Ohio cut a .579 to Rick Shepherd from Riverside, Ohio .577. On the double breakout Steve was able to hold on for the win. In the next match up Tom Lang from Springfield, Ohio defeated a red lighting Matt Baird from West Carrollton, Ohio. The final match-up of the round found Gwayne Honeycutt from Urbana, Ohio defeated Bryan Fox from Springfield, Ohio. In the semi finals Tom Lang defeated a breaking out Gwayne Honeycutt. In the final match up of the round we watched Steve Collier receive his bye run into the final round. In the final Steve Collier cut a .552 light to Tom Lang’s red lighting .478 light. In the quarterfinals of the Sportsman class we saw some tough competition. The first match up was between Doug Caplinger from xenia, Ohio had the bye run into the semi finals. The next match-up was Ryan Jenks from Jamestown, Ohio defeating Joe Cloran Jr. from New Fairborn, Ohio. The next match up was between William Tharrpe from Xenia, Ohio defeating Ronnie Evans from Xenia, Ohio. In the last race of the round Brian Collier from Xenia, Ohio made defeated Joe Zimmer from Dayton, Ohio. In the Semi finals Ryan Jenks came up against Doug Caplinger. Doug had the starting line advantage and but was unable to hang on for the win. Ryan Jenks took the win and advanced to the final. In the other semi final match up Brian Collier defeated William Tharpe to advance to the final The final round found Brian collier racing against Ryan Jenks. Brian had the starting line advantage over Ryan and was able to take the win. In the quarterfinals Michael Nugent from Tipp City, Ohio faced off against Dave Beavers from Urbana, Ohio. Dave left before the 3rd amber and Michael took the win. In the next match up Michael Hall from Harrison, Ohio defeated Barry Coffman from Dayton, Ohio. The next match up was between Chance Russell from Dayton, Ohio defeated Burt Exman from Englewood, Ohio. Chance was able to hold on for the win and defeat a breaking out Burt. The last race of the round was Brad Shellhaas from Springfield, Ohio who received the bye run. In the semi final round Chance Russell competed against Michael Nugent. Chance had a .500 light to Michael’s .510 light. The staring line advantage of Chance was enough to keep a hard charging Michael at bay. In the last race of the round Brad Shellhaas defeated Michael Hall to advance to the final The final round was between Brad Shellhaas and Chance Russell. When both drivers left the starting line they had almost identical reaction times. However in the end Chance was able to take the win. In the high school class we had one competitor compete. Jake Browder from Fairborn, Ohio ran a 17.04 on a 17.00 dial-in. |
