Kil-Kare Raceway

Event Date: 4/28 (R/O to May 5th)

 

 

 

 

            Saturday April 28th was the first day of points racing, Mother Nature that week wasn’t a race fan so we saw the event was rained out in the middle of the second round, and brought back to Kil-Kare with gates open at 10AM on May 5th. It was a busy day of racing, with all racers, track workers, and crews worked perfectly together.

 

            In Super Pro quarterfinals it was Rick Wilkins facing Josh Morgan. Wilkins from Hillsboro dialed a 5.60 to the 5.04 of Morgan from Fairborn. As the pair launched it would be Morgan with the better light a .519. as they made it to the finish line it would be Josh Morgan with the win light running a 5.05. Up next would be Mike Stugill of Beavercreek against Andy McConnaughey from Springfield. Sturgill’s Dragster dialed at a 4.95 with McConnaughey’s Malibu dialed at a 6.08. Sturgill would leave with the better light a .512 reaction time, coupled with a 4.9760 run for the win light. The next pair into the beams would be James Emrick of Tipp City against Doug Quillen of Moraine. Emrick’s 69 Camaro dialed at a 6.61 vs. the 69 Ford of Quillen dialed at a 6.11. The tree was not kind to Quillen as he ran red moving Emrick to the next round. Jason Farquer and Chris Wheatcraft were up for the last pair of Quarter Finals. Farquer would pull the red light, moving Wheatcraft to the next round.

 

            In the Semifinals it would be Mike Sturgill facing Josh Morgan. Sturgill dialed a 4.92 to the 5.04 of Morgan. The Morgan dragster flew off the line with a .501, along with a 5.045 run for the win. Next up would be Chris Wheatcraft and James Emrick to see who would face Josh Morgan in the finals. Wheatcraft of Jamestown, dialed his 02 Neon to a 4.68, while Emrick’s Camaro dialed at a 6.60. Emrick would see the better bulb with a .507 reaction time, along with a 6.6100 run for the win

 

It would be a door car vs. dragster final as Josh Morgan and James Emrick entered the waterbox. Morgan’s Dragster dialed a 5.04 to Emrick’s Camaro dialed in at 6.60. Reaction time difference was.0009 secs making it to tough to call an advantage, but at the end the win light would goto James Emrick with a 6.6072 run at 103.42 Mph.

 

            In Pro Quarters It would be Steve Collier of Xenia against former Division 3 Champion Bryan Fox of Springfield.  Short wheelbase dragsters a pair as they headed to the tree. Collier would dial a 9.72 to the 9.50 of Fox The reaction time battle was won by Collier with a .540, put that with his 9.7038 run at 132.80 Mph for the win light. Danny Oiler pulled in next from Springfield to race Johnny Vanover of Xenia. Oiler dialed a 10.73 to the 10.60 of Vanover. Vanover pulled a redlight, moving Oiler to the next round. Jason Wheatcraft had that Bye run to the next round.

 

            In  the Semifinals it would be Jason Wheatcraft facing Steve Collier. Wheatcraft dialed a 10.78 to the 9.72 of Collier. Wheatcraft would receive the better reaction time with a .525 and ran a 10.8018 at 123.64 Mph for the win light. Danny Oiler got the Bye into the Finals.

            In the Final Round it would be Oiler and Wheatcraft. Oiler dialed a 10.71 to the 10.79 of Wheatcraft. Wheatcraft would pull the red light, giving the win to Danny Oiler of Springfield.

 

            In Pro Bike it would be Perry Sowers of Springfield faced Burt Exman of Englewood. Sowers dialed a 9.16 to the 8.53 of Exman. As the pair went to the tree it would be Perry Sowers with the better reaction time with a .516, he ran on with a 9.2002 run at 130.36 Mph to eliminate Exman. Up next was Barry Coffman againt young Steve Withem. Coffman dialed a 8.95 and Withem an 11.40. It was a difference of .002 at the starting line, Coffman was able to gain the win light with a 8.9839at 137.73 Mph. Nathan Thatcher got the bye run into the semifinals.

            In the semis it would be Nathan Thatcher was against Barry Coffman. Thatcher of Dayton dialed a 9.55 Coffman also from Dayton dialed an 8.90. It would be a red light at the starting line for Coffman moving Thatcher to the Fianls. To face the Bye runner Perry Sowers.

            In the Finals Sowers of Springfield would try to win out over Thatcher of Dayton. At the Line Thatcher would launch with a .546 light, and Sowers would have Mechanical difficulties, making Thatcher the winner in the Bike finals.

           

In the Sportsman division, Nick Davis would be the Quick Rev Qualifier as he had the number one spot on the ladder, but was eliminated in the first ladder round. In the Quarterfinals it would be Joe Zimmer of Dayton, facing Michael Thompson of Englwood. Zimmer dialed a 13.59, to the 13.13 of Thompson. At the tree the better light would be Zimmer’s with a .502. Joe ran down the track in 13.6018 seconds at 97.40 Mph for the win light. Up Next would be mike Mcgriff of Oregonia against Bryan Perrin of Xenia. McGriff would dial a 12.39 to the 17.00 of Perrin. McGriff would get the better light with a .585, coupled with a run of 12.3658 at 100.89 Mph for the win light. Monty Harrison of Kettering faced Michael Davis of Moraine. Harrison dialed a 16.44 to the 12.62 of Davis. Reaction Time battle was won by Davis with a .528, coupled with a 12.6869 run at 95.97 Mph for the win.

            In the semis it would be Joe Zimmer getting the easy way out with the bye run. Then it would be Mike McGriff. Against Michael Davis. McGriff dialed a 12.38 to the 12.61 of Davis. Davis pulled away with a red light moving McGriff to the finals to face Joe Zimmer.

            In the Finals Zimmer would dial the Camaro in at a 13.52 and McGriff would dial the Mustang in at a 12.35. A classic Ford vs. Chevy match up for the win, Zimmer’s Camaro would get the better reaction time with a .557 along with a 13.5661 run at 96.76 Mph for the Sportsman Win!

 

            In Junior Dragsters competition took place in the NHRA designated age brackets, in the 8-9 Bracket it would be Kassandra Crum against Wyatt Kessler. Kassandra dialed a 13.80 to the 15.85 of Wyatt. Crum was better at the tree with a .806, running the Junior Dragster a 13.6672 at 58.19 Mph for the win light.

 

 

            In the 10-12 Age bracket it would be James Smith of Beavercreek and Shawn Alex of Xenia up first for Quarter Finals. Smith dialed his machine at a 9.12 to the 8.95 of Alex.  The reaction battle was better for Smith by .008 seconds, that with a 9.1339 run allowed James Smith to move on for the next round. Next up was Mike Phillpot of Waynesville against Miranda Roberts of Huber Heights. Phillpot dialed an 8.91 to the 12.10 of Roberts. Robert’s won the reaction time battle with a .504 which would also get her an ice cold Mountain Dew Courtesy of the Crum Family, Robert’s won the run but it would be Mike Phillpot receiving a free tech card courtesy of Muffler Brothers of Xenia for the best package. Up next would be Shayla Babb against Walter Crum III. Babb would dial an 11.98 to the 9.06 of Crum. Crum would have the better reaction time with a .674 and a 12.0112 run for the win light.

            In the Semi Finals it would be Mike Phillpot against Walter Crum. Crum would pull a red light moving Phillpot on to the next round. James Smith Faced Kassandra Crum who transferred after winning the 8-9 Bracket. Smith dialed  9.10 to the 13.65 of Kassandra. James had the better reaction time with a .602, along with a 9.3648 run winning by only .01 seconds.

            In the finals it was James Smith against Mike Phillpot. Smith dialed 9.13 to the 8.92 of Phillpot’s. Smith broke out and that would make the winner Mike Phillpot with an 8.9268 run at 70.89 Mph.

 

            In the 13 & up age bracket it would be Julie Duty facing Ciera Phillpot. Duty of Vandalia dialed an 8.00 to the 8.43 of Phillpot of Waynesville. Phillpot pulled away with a red light moving Duty to the next round. Lacy Emory of Beavercreek faced Megan Hughes of Waynesville in the next pair. Emory dialed a 7.90 to the 8.30 of Hughes. At the tree Emory would get away better but Hughes was able to get it done making her pass in 8.3549 secs for the win light. Up next was Emily Kaythe of Xenia against Mike Morris of Dayton. Kaythe would dial a 7.90 to the 9.72 of Morris. Morris would record the better reaction time, but Emily Kaythe would be the Double Breakout Winner, running a 7.8841 at 83.18 Mph. Taylor Manning got the Bye run into the Semifinals.

            In the Finals it was Megan Hughes against Emily Kaythe. Hughes would dial an 8.21 to the 7.94 of Kaythe. Kaythe had the better reaction time with a .502 which coupled with a 7.9700 run for the win light.
