Dunlevy Locks Up KilKare Track Championship

Xenia OH: Dick Dunlevy Jr. started out the his final season of racing with dreams of going out a winner by taking the KilKare Speedway late model track championship. The dream became reality for the NewCarlisle OH driver Friday as the cagey veteran won the NASCAR Whelen All American Racing Series 30 lap main. Dunlevy could have never in his wildest dreams have imagined how he would dominate this season. The win was the 15th in 20 starts for Dunlevy behind the wheel of the Ed and Joann Simpson owned stocker backed by the Ohio Pain Clinic. This win was far from easy as Bob Sibila put pressure on Dunlevy, but as he has done all season Dunlevy was able to hold off Sibila's best efforts on his run to the checker. Fast qualifier Terry Scherz was third. Russ Bobb fourth and Tony Brunke fifth. Sibila was the winner of the dash.

In modified action transplanted Yellow Springs driver Derek Barnette, now a California resident, led all 30 laps in his A to Z Painting sponsored ride to post his second feature win of the season. Points leader Ryan Fleming made several attempts to pass Barnette, but came up just short at the checker. Mike Carroll, fast qualifier Jack Jones and Daryl McKay finished third thru fifth. Carroll carried the checker for the dash win, with Rob Dutra taking heat honors.

The street stock division had a strong turn out with fifteen cars taking the green flag. Columbus driver Joe Hensel took advantage of his front row starting spot to take the lead at the drop of the green. Hensel never looked back, as he led all the way in his Cavalier Tours backed Ford to win his fifth feature of the season. Jamie Sites put pressure on Hensel the entire race but had to settle for second. David Stump, Travis Digges and Brian Reeser rounded out the top five. Points leader Tyler Mahaffey set fast time, with Digges taking the dash win. Sites and Phil Gussler Jr. scored heat wins.

The compacts rounded out the nights action. It turned out to be a great night for Xenia OH driver Bryan Lynch. Lynch set fast time in his Nick's Place backed Honda then came back to claim top spot in the 20 lap feature. The win was the third of the season for Lynch. Bo Hoelscher, Nick Barrett, Paul Holley and Amber Sites rounded out the top five. Hoelscher was the dash winner, with Steve Barnhart winning the heat race.

This Friday KilKare will host a full program of late models, modifieds, street stocks and compacts. Racing will begin at 8.
