Speedway Dunlevy and Hoelscher Continue KilKare Dominance Xenia OH: 6/8- Dick Dunlevy Jr. in the late models and Bo Hoelscher in the compacts continued to dominate their classes at KilKare Speedway Friday.
Dunlevy, who announced this will be the final year of racing hopes to close out his career with the coveted track championship in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series late models. Dunlevy started off the evening by setting fast time in his Simpson family owned racer with a 13.739 lap. Russ Bobb set the pace early in the 30 lap feature as Dunlevy worked his way to the front . Dunlevy, in his Duncan Oil sponsored ride finally got to the front at the halfway point. Dunlevy then set sail for the checker. He went on to post his seventh feature win in eleven starts. Bobby Justus, Shawn Stansell, Bob Sibila and Bobb rounded out the top five. Justus carried the checker for the dash, with Tony Brunke taking the heat win.
In modified action Kettering Mike Carroll was clearly the man to beat, as he set fast time with a 13.792 lap during time trials. When the feature rolled off Carroll was soon out front in his McDonalds openwheeler and was never challenged as he sped to his third win of the season. Brad Williams had another strong outing to finish second, with Bill Burba third, Ryan Fleming fourth and Grant Gamble fifth. Fleming took the dash win, while John Donovan was the heat winner.
Columbus resident Joe Hensel powered his Destiny's Auto Sales backed Ford to still another win in the street stocks. Hensel won easily over Josh Longstreth, Jamie Sites, David Stump and Tyler Mahaffey. Hensel also set fast time, but was unable to pass Sites in the dash.
The compact main was the most competitive event of the night. The father son team of Joe and Bo Hoelscher started in row one. Joe jumped out front with son Bo, Amber Sites and Steve Barnhart battling three wide at times for second. Bo finally put his Peabodysports.com backed Honda, leaving the frenzied battle for the runner up spot behind him. At the checker, Bo was out front followed by Sites, Barnhart, Ryan Tamburro and Paul Holley. The win was the seventh of the season for Bo, who is always quick to thank his dad for his success. Hoelscher was fast qualifier, with Barnhart taking the dash win. Holley was the winner of the heat race.
This Friday will be “Kids Night” at the speedway a;long with a full program of late models, modifieds, street stocks and compacts. General Admission will be $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students with children 12 and under and active military (with proper ID) free. Racing will start at 8.
